Hi all, hope this finds all well,
T 355 transmission was rebuilt a year ago. Familiar sounds are coming back, fear another rebuild coming up.
2007 Jeep Compass 2,4 Manual says ATF.Mileage now: 310,000 KM'S.
One mechanic said use 5W - 30, MTF, another said 75W - 90, another said stay with ATF.
Question - Has anyone tried anything other than ATF ??
Slight noise like worn brake pads 1st to 3rd, very slight 4th and 5th.
Goes away on decelerating foot off accelerator.
All advice would be highly appreciated, thank you in advance.

I don't have personal experience but do have noises that dealer says normal and I bought lifetime warranty. With that said if I was paying for the next rebuiild I would seriously look at another fluid. I have read somewhere that the manufacturer of the t355 advised Chrysler against using ATF but I forget where I saw that and they didn't lost what to use but would imagine any manual trans/gear oil would do. Just search for t355 fluid. Since I have warranty I have to use mopar ATF or equivalent.

Thank you Silverflash, I also seem to have read that through the lines, just thought I would put that out to pasture, as it is a Manual transmission , to find out if there was any truth or myth.
Well, if it is on the way out, might as well try something different, do not see it do more harm than it has got at present !!
Lost faith in local, can not even find a leak, say they will have to pull the transmission !!
Will see what I can find locally. You guys are so privileged to have a variety of choices, aftermarket stuff etc.
Will let know what happens.
Good to hear from you. :smiley_thumbs_up:

You will never get a satisfactory answer to your question. I'm assuming you're talking about the SRT-4.

I've asked this same question to different people at Mopar Performance and PVO several times and they really have no idea. I've gotten answers saying the FM is for the limited slip even though Quaiffe (the diff. manufacturer) says a torque biasing differential obviously doesn't need FM because there are no clutches. I've gotten answers saying the FM is for the synchros even though the FM wasn't called for in the first year of production or any of the European production versions (delivery truck tranny.) I've gotten answers that the ATF+4 is due to fluid streamlining (one fluid for all trannys) but most of Dodge's other manuals call for a synchromesh fluid. New Venture (tranny's manufacturer) won't officially contradict Mopar but several engineers say they would never use ATF in a manual and ATF was NOT spec'ed by New Venture.Bottom line, read forums to find out what others are having luck with and run what YOU are comfortable with.

Hi guys,
Hope all is well, found the above post, has anyone investigated the statement ??
Why I am questioning is Temps over here are typically around 10 - 35 + Deg C.
Average Mileage per Month = 3000+ km's.
Just feel ATF might be a bit thin ??
Cheers, all have a good weekend.
