Had a wild thought today, did a bit of snooping around the internet and now looking for any ideas/feedback from the crew here.

My 2009 Patriot has a WGE 2.4L Motor with T355 Manual Trans.
Would I be right in saying that the WGE 2.4L Turbo Motor and Getrag DMT6 Trans from a SRT-4 Dodge Caliber would be a possible, and somewhat, easy conversion with minimal modification?

Look forward to some answers :)

I'd say maybe half the folks here wanna see such a thing happen, but nobody has the money so far. Should be easier than any other engine swap, and yes it should be the same engine aside from the turbo. A Lancer is even available with this same engine and CVT.

I personally would like to see this happen I think it would be a great change over.

I personally want to get Mine at up to Canada and do a diesel conversion, I would love to have a diesel engine in my pat

I'll start to make it happen then!
It was nice to see that a few others confirmed my want and curiosity on the conversion.

ECU won't be an issue as I'll run a completely aftermarket unit with custom tune to suit :)

Keep a look out for a build thread to start soon!

Instead of spending all that money and time, and going through all the hassle, why not just buy the used Caliber and drive that?

Also, as I recall someone tried to do something similar to this with the Caliber's turbo 2.4L and it was a big fail. Couldn't get it all to work.

Your dime and your time as they say so good luck. I just don't see the reason/rationale for it in this platform?

I plan on making it easier and swapping out the head with an srt4 head to lower compression and putting a small turbo on to have minimal turbo lag for trailing. I've been talking to marlin from jeepin by al and we are working on a lift for the patriot. A REAL lift so I'll need some extra power. I say kudos to you guy for what'll be an awesome build.

Why spend so much on a Patriot when you could get an old cherokee or wrangler with 10x the capability and 1/10th the cost? It'd probably be about the same cost to buy a new wrangler even...

Any info on the proposed lift? How are you doing it?

The biggest issue capability wise is our CVT/Engine combo and lack of a crawl ratio.

A Cherokee trailhawk that weighs 4300lbs plus and has a 2.4L engine with 184hp/171tq and its low range kills the MK platform offroad. It has the same crappy articulation we do, but is so much better because of it's low range (and locker helps too)

A similar drivetrain (or just lower gears) would help us out a lot, but that will never happen.
