Just got home, Trail was awesome, went through to 7 springs. Trail wasn't much more than just a dirt road for 90% of it. Lots of awesome pictures. I'll be working on putting together a video like I did the last one Should be up some time tomorrow (lot more editing with this one to add in the pictures etc.)

vid is uploading as we speak. I actually uploaded it last night, but there was some issues with some of the music I used, so I pulled it, fixed the music and am putting it back up now.

There was actually no tough section. I only used 4x4 like 4 or 5 times, mostly to climb up hills that were steep with loose gravel. I didn't need the 4x4 to do it, but I didn't like how much my tires were spinning/throwing rocks. The hardest part was a flatter spot on the trail where it had gotten muddy in the last few rain storms and somebody tore it up pretty good, so there were some deep ruts. no 4x4 needed, just some careful driving to not stick a tire into a huge hole.

Perfect trail for a 4x4 patriot. Took about 3.5-4 hours on the trail. total trip from door to door for me was just over 6 hours.

The trail is actually a lot longer than I expected.
Fairly easy too, I was expecting a rough climb on the blue section of the Charles A. Wells book.

I loved the section at 36:45, probably my fav section of the trail.

Pretty cool balanced rock at 50:44 :wow:

Sucks that your battery died, you don't carry extras?

What software do you use to render your vids?

Also, do you listen to this type of music or do you simply find music with free rights of usage? Pretty good taste :)

Sorry for all of the Q's haha :)

Well from my research it was pretty washed out after the storm that took out like all of new river (the town). most of the trail you could see tracks from a digger here and there still. so its been RECENTLY gone over. I only used 4wd, like 4 or 5 times climbing out of the washes, and I really don't think I needed it. I could see it being more difficult after a few good rain storms. but its perfect right now for a patriot/stockish 4x4 to go through in 2wd. (that goes for the main road, we took a side jaunt and i would recommend a lifted 4x4 for that since it was obvously not maintained like the main part of the road. we didn't go very far, but it could have gotten a bit more sketchy as we went further up the canyon) from door to door it was about 6 hours. but that included stopping to pick up my dad, and stopping a lot on the trail. Its also nearly an hour to the trail from my house and over an hour back from the end since we took a 2nd dirt road (not a trail, just a dirt road) home and had to go slower on it than on the trail since it was so washboardy.

I wish, I don't have the $ for extra batteries. I need to pick a couple up. But really you missed maybe 15 min max (so about 7 minutes of video)

I use microsoft's movie maker. Its 1) free, and 2) uncomplicated. I find most other applications far to complicated to use without any additional features I would actually use. My skills at making videos are far below the capabilities of that application. if I get a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) camera, I will want to do some PiP, which will require an app like Microsoft Expression Encoder or a more powerful video editing software, but I'm happy with what I have now.

Movie maker has a link to a free library of music. But you have to be careful the music is free and for the most part license free as well. BUT I ran into a problem with one of the artists I grabbed from this weekend, and I had to delete my video off youtube and re edit it to remove the music from the video. and then I had to upload, which was still giving me a copyright claim (since I used the same video name) and had to file a formal request to have the claim removed... PITA. its not music that is normally in my library, but it is the genre of music i listen to.

If I Had a way to get my Compass down to my parents place, I would be there yesterday!
You should just come down and buy an XJ, and leave it at your parents house! Seriously though let me know next time you come down for sure. I'll do everything I can to be available to go out.

Do you find yourself going slower or faster in the Cherokee than you used to in the Pat? They only downside to having a Cherokee or Wrangler that I can think of is the Patriot being a bit more nimble on those long, only slightly bumpy, roads. Just yesterday I was on a very windy dirt/gravel/sand road and was thinking that the independent suspension probably does a better job?

answered this in a long winded and over complicated new thread, but yes, the patriot gives a MUCH better ride on those types of roads. especially if you air down a bit. its like driving on a cloud (well, compared to the XJ)

Which gopro model do you own?
Have you looked into other makers of the same battery? Waay cheaper...

All of my softwares were free and I can hook you up if you'd like.
(Photoshop, Lightroom, Sony Vegas, PTGui, Replay Music etc etc etc.)

Every software I've been interested in has been cracked, I even cracked the latest version of PS on a Mac before they began to have the subscriptions.

All you have to do is block them from internet connection through your firewall.
I've had cracked softwares for many years, since I got my first pc back in 2006 in fact and have never had an issue regarding piracy.

Changing it up,
I was looking at some of Bill Towers vids today on youtube and noticed he drove the New River trail in January of this year (well that's when the vid was uploaded). The conditions are night and day from when you went. I believe they 'fixed' it a little not long ago correct?

Here's the vid just in case you're interested, one Jeep had to be rescued near the mid of the vid.

I have a gopro hero3 white. It was the cheapest one I could buy when I bought mine a couple of years ago. I have looked into them, what I really want is more cameras though... So if I were to spend money, I'll spend money on a new camera, so I can do PiP from other angles.

Thanks for the offer on the software. I have full versions of adobe, I just don't use it. and I can get any software through work for $10 or less (perks of working in IT) and often free legit copies if I go through the right channels. I don't bother with cracked software anymore, its actually more work and effort than just paying a couple of bucks for legit software.

I need to look at gopro's app, its supposed to be good, It just never worked on my desktop, but I have a couple of really fast laptops now, which I do 90% of my work on that I need to install it on.

I hadn't seen that video! yeah, that's A LOT tougher than what it was like when I drove on it. (and they are not very good drivers....)
