Yeah, walking away is still an option. I don't want to tho just yet as I'm curious what else my dealer finds, and what could possible come from this. Yes this is very disappointing, and a hassle for sure, but it may prove to be better for us in the end. BBB is definitely getting notice of this, and I think it's at the point of talking to the owner/GM of my dealer as it is. As much as I don't want to walk away from this (since it is a limited color and what we wanted at a good price), we're not desperate for this- we don't NEED it. My Passat needs a little work, but is still in good shape with low miles. So we'll see what happens.

Thanks for all your suggestions!

Specialanthony, I understand your plight. The question is do you have a deal? It sounds like your dealer is unable or unwilling to complete their end of the bargain. Do what you have to do but Be very carefull with them.

As a side note I sold my 99 Passat last fall and did receive a premium just below rull retail on a private sale. The car had an unusual combination of v6, manual, and leather. The buyer (ex VW mechanic) knew exactly what it was and purchased it right away. Used VWs remain excellent performance vehicles for the money and remain a good buy/value for those who are willing to tolerate their mechanical idiocyncracies.

I agree that it will be interesting to see what else you find out. But keep in mind that ultimately they had no intentions on honoring the deal. Hook you in with an irresistable trade-in allowance, place your order, "misplace" your vehicle... run the clock down, wear down your patience and resistance (to change). You'll then end up either taking whatever the dealer happens to come across or unable to get an '07 (of ANY color) and forced to order an 08, and predictably the trade-in allowance offer is no longer valid.

So when comparing what kind of deal the other dealer (the one with the vehicle) will offer, keep in mind that your current "deal" is just a fantasy and not realistic.

Yeah, our wagon is a 5spd V6 with leather too. We didn't want the headaches of private sales (which we've had in the past), especially with the issues it has.

edit- true about the fantasy deal. Thanks again for the insight. :)

Re private sales. I told the person every issue that the car has had, currently does have, and work it will need. Showed him the maintenance records and told him the dealer who performed all the non-routine work. He had worked at that dealer. It was a very smooth sale. Took 3 weeks from the time I posted on autotrader.com.

Screw the bastard. The original dealer failed to deliver so you can negotiate with whomever you want. I personally would go to the other dealer and even for a little more would buy from them. Have no place in my universe for someone who cannot be truthful on the simple stuff.
I'd do the exact same thing. Why would you want to deal with a dealership that has lied to you like this? I don't imagine that they're going to go out of their way to help you in the future, should you need it. My family has been dealing with the same small Chrysler dealership since 1987 and we've built a good relationship with them. I'll pay a little more to buy a car from them than I would from another Chrysler dealership because I know that they'll take care of me and help me out if I need it.

Thanks guys- IF I could get a hold of anyone at my dealer, I'd tell them deal's off.

I don't know what my wife and I will do now, but thanks for everyone's input and thoughts about this. When it comes down to it, we really do not want to do business with them regardless of the cost.

Sigh... Why must we fall in love with such a highly demanded car right as they cut production?!?! :(

Can another local dealer trade for the car that is 300 miles away and get it to you?

It's been the story of my life. ;)

The one thing that I learned from the numerous times that it has happened to me is to be a bit flexible with what I want... in these circumstances it is better to have a vehicle in your driveway that is similar to (or maybe better than) what I want than to order and wait.

It's possible, however the first dealer wanted us to make a deal before they even considered getting it. I truly don't think this Jeep is available or there is something sketchy with it- otherwise this wouldn't be an issue, I wouldn't be typing this out right now, rather I'd be driving it.

We may try another dealer but I'm not about to put anything down in writing till I drive it first. I can be flexible with options and we were, but I can't compromise on a manual trans with the grey interior and a sunroof- this seems to be the biggest issue and hardest thing to find.

I would go an deal with another dealership. Even if you have to travel out of your way. I know your wife is 8 months along and have a 2 year old. I think it'll be worth walking away. There's another dealership out there you'll like and they do whatever they have to for you!! There are some crooked dealerships out there. Seems like you ran across the one!! I did email communication with two dealership. The one I am getting mine from gave me the answer I was looking for right off the bat. The other one just kept telling me, we don't have one yet. I wanted to hear yes we can order what you want. Good Luck!! I have a feeling you'll find one with another dealership. (I sold my car privately, sold it about a week after I had it in Autotrader! I got full asking price. The dealership didn't want to give me a quote until I ordered. I figured by then the trade in value would drop. I knew what I wanted out of it, got it.)

I think you did the right thing!!! Stay positive though!! It'll happen and you'll be driving home in a Patriot soon!! Maybe before baby is born :)

I'd hope so, but considering my daughter was 7 weeks early, even with a due date of 8/12, my wife thinks our son will be here around end of July. Chances are if we get one, it'll be an 08 order, which makes me think Blake will be here before the Patriot would in mid-August!

Time will tell! :)

It's understandable why you don't want to travel so far away right now. Wouldn't it be something new son and new patriot close together. Your son can grow with the Jeep. (just my strange way of thinking I guess) Good luck

Thanks guys. :) I hadn't thought of my son growing with the Jeep- how funny! It'll be like a family pet or something. ;)
