I been lovin this forum over the past few days. Also been lovin the Patriot of course.. I have two questions if anyone can help me out.

1- On the speedometer, in the Information center, in between the direction and speed the letters crl keep blinking.. Does anyone know what that means? I couldn't find it in the owners manuel.

2- Anyone know if it is possible to stop the beeping noise if i'm not wearing my seatbelt? I live very close to some friends and family (within 2 miles on back roads) and usually don't wear it then.. If it is possible to stop the beep please let me know.

Compass Calibration
The Compass will automatically calibrate if the Cal
indicator is flashing, by driving around slowly (under 5
mph/8 km/h) in one or more complete circles in an area
free from large metallic objects or power lines, until the
Cal indicator turns off. If during normal use the compass
appears erratic, inaccurate or abnormal, you may wish to
manually calibrate the compass. Prior to calibrating the
compass make sure the proper zone is selected.
To Manually Calibrate the Compass Start the engine and
leave the transmission in the PARK position. Using a
short button press (less than one second), press and
release the EVIC button several times until the EVIC
displays the Personal Settings (Customer Programmable
Features) menu. Once in the Personal Settings
(Customer-Programmable Features) menu, press and release
(less than one second) the EVIC button several
times until “Calibrate Compass (Yes)” is displayed. Using
a long button press (more than one second), pressing the
EVIC button will place the Compass in calibration mode.
The Cal indicator will come on continuously in the EVIC
display, to indicate that the compass is now in the
calibration mode and that the vehicle can now be driven
to calibrate. A short EVIC button press from the Calibrate
Compass (Yes) screen will exit the EVIC Customer
Programmable features, and return it to its normal operating
mode. To complete the compass calibration, drive
the vehicle in one or more complete 360 degree circles
under 5 mph (8 km/h) in an area free from power lines
and large metallic objects, until the CAL indicator turns
off. The compass will now function normally.
 
I'm not about to preach to you...(I wouldn't want anyone to do it to me) but why not just put your belt on? I know it's a PITA but there's a reason for them being there. YOU may be concentrating and being careful but not everyone else is. We've got you on this forum (welcome btw) now lets keep you coming back safe and sound... Back me up guys!:smiley_thumbs_up:
 
There is a way to turn off the chime but not the warning light on the dash for the seat belt. It is outlined in the owners manual. It is very strange. Like, turn the key on, connect and disconnect the seat belt 3 times in under 30 seconds, but be sure the light goes on and off on the dash,(which is nearly impossible) then turn the key back off. Jump out of the car, Dance on one foot, pat your head and spin around, ending up facing 15 degrees NE.
 
I believe the seat belt chime only comes on above 15 mph--as you're driving on back roads (at least back roads around here...) you'll not get that fast!
 
I could be wrong about this one but I think that the bleeper for the seat-belt is activated not by the clicker/lock but by the amount that the belt is pulled out of it's reel. Try it. If that's the case then fitting something like a clothes-peg will de-activate it.
Now that I've told you how to do that here's a story from Wales.
Last year a young model was killed in a crash which, I believe, was no fault of her own. Her mother was quoted in the papers as saying that her daughter never wore a seat-belt (and didn't think that you should be forced to) because she thought that in an accident her breasts might be badly injured by the restriction of the belt. Well, it's one hell of a way to find out that there's worse that can happen to you than bruised breasts.

Actually, thinking about it, by the time that you've fiddle-assed around with the clothes peg you'll likely as not think that the easiest way to hold the belt out of its reel is just to wrap it across yourself!
 
Unless you are going to program it out (yes the first part of my post was the actual method) it would be easier to just put it on. We drive my kid to the end of the driveway for school and in cold weather we let the car run. If you are sitting on the seat the chime will ding at you every few seconds unless you program it off. I always wear the belt beyond the end of the driveway.
 
If you want to not wear your seatbelt that is your business. Have you tried buckling it without you in it, and then just sitting on it.

Download your owner's manual from jeep.com under the owners site. The procedure to disable the seat belt chime is listed there.

I gave the direction to what he wants. I'm not some humanitarian that says everyone must follow all the rules and live forever in peace and love. I just thought it ironic that the excuse he gives is one that my owners manual lists. So many people don't like or understand statics. In this case, it's pretty much his life to affect by not using the safety device, thus my comment, "Hey, it's your life."
 
I don't give it much thought. If they are there I usually wear them. I have cars I drive that are so old they never had seat belts. That gives me a totally different perspective. I don't get all weird about safety. I'm just as likely to have a crash while driving a really old car with no safety equipment as I am to be driving the Patriot with the most modern safety equipment. Fate will do as it will.
 
I've had my license for a mere 16 years, so all the vehicles I've driven have had at least seat belts. Different era, I suppose. I'm used to wearing them. My kids will be in 5-pt harnesses as long as I can find seats that fit them. I don't believe in fate.

That's funny. We could hardly wait for our kid to be big enough to eliminate the car seat and booster seat.

It did seem foolish in the 61 Cadillac, model A Ford or the Willys wagon which had no seat belts to secure the child seat to.
