So about 4 wks ago the wife was out and about and took a hit in the rear while slowing for a traffic light. The guy traveling behind her was apparently reaching for his house keys and didn't see her slowing until it was too late. He was literally around the corner from his home.
I work in insurance claims so I am pretty familiar with the process. We allowed his company to handle the claim as liablity was clear. Their appraiser came out and performed an inspect, there was around $950 in damages to the rear bumper and the fuel vapor canister.
We wanted to use a Jeep dealer for repairs but none in our area had a body shop so we used a Chrsyler dealer nearby figuring it was the next best thing. Jeep being a Chrysler product and all.

We'll I picked the Pat up on Friday after it had been there for a week. There was some delays in getting the bumper/vapor canister due to back order. I picked it up in the late evening when the lighting was not so good. I looked it over and was pleased with the job that was done. But yesterday morning I went out to clean out both cars and when looking at the rear bumper of the Pat at a certain angle I noticed something strange on the lower driver side rear bumper. There appeared to be a square 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Almost as if it is the knockout for the tow hook.
So now I'm thinking the shop may have used the wrong bumper. I know for certain the original bumper had no such square in the rear.

Can someone go out and take a look at their Pat and see if it has a similiar square. I've attached pics as best as I could but it's difficult to see. The first pic is of the damage. The remaining pics are following repairs.
Thanks.

If you ask me it could be the hole marks for the euro spec rear towhook opening.

here is an image of an euro spec patriot

Just a guess:
maybe Jeep doesn´t make different (us/euro) replacement rear bumper but one with the marks. So you US guys get a simple paint over bumper and for euro models they know where to cut the hole?

Thanks it looks like that is the case. So they probably used the Euro spec bumper.
I'm going to call the shop tomorrow and see what they say. It's not the biggest deal in the world but it is a noticible defect that I'm not happy with. I would definatley prefer the bumper without this notch. Or that they would have at least made me aware of thsi.

We'll I called the shop. The guy told me he would look into it. I suspect he will not.
He said that the bumper was ordered based on the Vin number so what they received is the OEM replacement bumper. He thinks its possible that all of the replacement bumpers come with this knockout to allow to owner to later add a tow hook if wanted.

We'll see. The wife is going to take the Jeep up there on Wednesday and see what they say.

Anybody know of another resource I could use to look into this. The part # on both the invoice and estimage is 68021290-AC. Thanks.

June my riot also took a nice kiss in the rear back in NOV. Before the accident i also noticed that same square on the original bumper. We had the dealer take a look at it and the said that he thought it was "parking lot damage" and that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. While we were there we did take a look at all the NEW riots they had on the lot, come to find out almost all had the same square. Some of the other colors were more noticeable. well after all the repairs after the collision we still have the square on the new one as well. the dealer said that it could be a defect in the bumper cover mold. But after seeing the euro pats bumper i am starting to think it may be the same bumper and that the euro pats just have the it cut out for that cover. will post some pics when i can.

I've got that patch too. Odd thing, though. We'd normally see tow-eyes on the drivers side; don't forget that in the U.K. and Ireland that's the right-hand side of the car. I wouldn't be surprised if, as someone has mentioned , they only bother supplying these towbars for all world markets.
It's got me thinking, though. If there's no patch at all in a U.S bumper (actually, I thought you all called them 'fenders'), then where's the tow-eye on a U.S Patriot?

Bumpers are Bumpers !!! Fenders are Wings !!!--- We are divided by a common language--lol!!

I posted my own question about this in a different post(http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82601) but then found this. If you look at the OP's pic, it looks like the same marks but on the top part of the bumper whereas mine is on the bottom. Then if you look at the pics in this thread, the tow hooks are farther to the left.
