If you ever wonder why your ordered Patriot didn´t arrived yet the answer is that lot of peoples wants them.
From the official Chrysler press release:
"The Jeep Patriot continued to gain momentum and finished April with sales of 2,904 units, up 38 percent from March 2007."

If you ask me Jeep understimated the succsess of the Patriot and simple didn´t produced enough in the past months to make everyone happy ;)

Rends, Thank you and the sales numbers are good news and explains some of the availability issues. The problem with Patriots, however, has been delays in starting and ramping up production regardless of sales volume.

In some respects, I wonder if the lack of Patriots has been due to the cold reception the Compass has received.
It seems to me, the Patriot seems to be the sought-after one of the 2, and people were waiting for it, instead of going for a Compass. Judging from my own personal experience and from the thread I made earlier that seems to be the case.

Nope jeepmuck, everyone knew the Patriot would sell fairly well and the Compass would be a lower volume car. The introduction schedule was designed to work with the high volume Caliber so that the Patriot and Caliber would not compete during each's first six months of production. I only know the publicly disclosed problems at the Belvidere plant but those are only part of the problems. There has continued to be parts shortages along the way restricting production totals assuming all the critical manufacturing issues have been resolved.

It was the intent of CexD to roll out the Patriot in September - November. This is perfect for an SUV to take advantage of the seasonal demand. Instead the Patriot did not reach volume production till March for in effect a spring rollout. This is highlighted by the fact that 2007 will be an abbreviated production run. If the Patriot was to begin sales after Feb 07 the Patriot would've been an 08 model.

My dealer has no Patriots to sell. My dealer has no Wranglers to sell. It is not a good situation when you cannot meet your sales goals due to lack of product.

Yeah I've heard countless people waiting for the Wrangler Rubicon and our beloved Patroit like no ones business. Jeep is the saving grace of the Chrysler Corporation right now. And it's simple to see why: The Patriot (and Compass) both offer great features, impressive MPG and all for a small price of entry. The Wrangler still appeals to the masses in ways that I'll never understand but hey - the engineers got it right so why even try to figure it out.

For the moment, All Jeep needs to do is hurry up with the killing of the Commander and their model lineup should be pretty solid for the next 2 or 3 years.

Drive a Wrangler for a year and you'll understand it's appeal. Take it off-road and you'll understand even more. The greatest day of the year for me is the first day with nice weather after winter when I can peel the top off my Wrangler.

I agree with your comment on the Commander. Jeep/Chrysler was late to the game in releasing an SUV larger than the GC. It should have never made it's way to production with it's current construction. It isn't much larger than a GC.

That is the thing, I've only riden in a Wrangler. I hope my comment didn't come off negative like: I was trying to say that it's a part of a community that I've never been involved with and thus wouldn't try to even explain.

I love my Liberty, I look forward to the Patriot. I believe that I will only buy a Jeep from now on.

The Commander is constructed off of the Grand Cherokee platform IIRC. You, me and a majority of the general public realized that it was too small to be useful as a 7 passenger vehicle. Plus the listed price of entry, factored in with it's MPG was just a killer combination.

I also heard that it was pulling sales away from the Grand!

The odd thing is that every Jeep dealer here in AZ has like 30-40 Commanders on their lots. (Compared to 1/3 of that each for the other Jeep models)

That's because they are trying to dump the inventory before next years production cut off. You'll probably see a lot of advertising for out-going models (like the current generation Liberty and the Commander) over the next couple of months.

You didn't come across as negative at all. If you've only riden in a Wrangler your POV is understandable.

A Wrangler is not a smooth ride by any stretch of the imagination. Atleast the two I've owned (an '89 and a '97). It's not built for that. You don't buy a Wrangler to be safe, to haul things, to have a quiet ride. You buy it inspite of all those things.

I'm like you. I believe I'll only ever own Jeeps. That's not at all logical. But who ever said car shopping is based on logic? :)
