I posted this thread in another sub-forum, but I guess this is better place to do it as diesel Patriots are not available in the US.

The question is?

Did any of CRD owners did, or considered, tuning their diesel engines?

I found on the net several tuning solutions increasing power from 140bhp@4000 min-1 to 170bhp@4100min-1 and torque from 320Nm@1750 min-1 to 370Nm@1660min-1 which is great increase in both power and torque! Also, they claim to reduce fuel consumption for 1l/100km.

Note: as diesel Patriot is actually using VW diesel engine, I was looking for VW tunings.

i have a cheap e-bay tuning box(actually just a resistor) fitted. makes the Riot a bit sharper pick up and noticeable increase in pulling power. no loss in mpg until i fitted 235/65x17 A/T's.

has to be a cheap mod.....ÂŁ25 stg. look to suit Audi A4 tdi 140bhp.

140bhp-170bhp and torques from 320Nm to 380Nm.

21.50 plus p&p....its worth a go since the startec ecu upgrade is ÂŁ999 here in the UK!!!!!!!!! for similiar power increase.

If you want to do it pooperly get proper re-map for ÂŁ200-ÂŁ400 this should get you around 180bhp.

21,000 miles. diagostonic light was on for a while but mate that does the servicing cleared the fault.....listed it as faulty inlet air temp sensor....the box makes the ecu think the inlet temp is different and fuelles it differently to give more power.

A couple days ago get the same (as nebcaron) e-bay "engine chip" for 2.0CRD (TDI) diesel engine for 35$ including shipping to Latvia. My expectations approved, engine has more torque at low rpms, acceleration is more faster, average consumption drop in 2 days from 7,5-7,1l/100km in winter conditions...Think that for this money I could't get anything better!:)

pull plug off inlet air temperature sensor. plug "box" into inlet temp and plug that came off it into other end of "box"......

did that make sense...????

fools the inlet air temperature sensor so ecu fuels the car differently = more power.....

ummm think so... and somehow mpg is slightly better...????

get it serviced by a mate who is a qualified mechanic...you don't have to take a car to main dealer to keep warranty. in the EU there is a thing called block exemption which says info must be made available outside the dealer network etc etc....link attached

At one time I owned a Skoda Superb Elegance 1.9 Tdi Tiptronic- Very similar to Patriot Diesel & I thought I wanted more power. I had a good chat with a Qualified Tech , who told me , the best way to go is with a reputable company like Super Chips, Who Can take the bhp up in 10's for you Do a rolling road test & gurantee their product. I was told " On no account use any cheap product sold on E-bay by snake oil salesmen. ÂŁ25 ??? they are worth about 25p.. You like to think they work ( Placebo Effect) but will eventually bugger up your engine & the computer controlled Electronic Management Unit.Yea as stated you are fooling the engine into doing things it was never designed to do....Yea & Bang goes your warranty!!!

Bad, turbo and cat = no noise. might change performance slightly but could go either way if back pressure ends up wrong. cost = expensive ÂŁ200- ÂŁ400 i guess IF you can find one listed for a CRD.

spend money on proper re-map
