Please understand I mean to insult.
:wow:

(Yeah, I know, I know. Stupid to make a joke out of a typo. Couldn't help myself. :D )

I think some are forgetting an important point. It is important to note even if your Patriot 4x4/4WD is switched to "ESP OFF" the TCS feature remains enabled.
That is because of the "limited slip" feature of the TCS. It would suck for that to not work in off-road conditions. I for one haven't noticed the TCS preventing any wheel spin that is similar on both sides of the axle.

A very good point in case some people note what they think is ESP/TSC while still in partial of off modes. The brake applied electronic LSD which is done by the TCS/ESP system always remains active, even in ESP off. Its results are similar to a mechanical clutch-based LSD. It is not similar to a mechanical locker or solid rear axle (no diff).

Like Thomas and Tony, I can spin my wheels without any system activation. In ESP Partial mode it can be done in a straight line.

I had some fun in the snow last weekend too. my pat drove like a rear wheel drive truck in the parking lot (even with esp partial off). I was doing donuts nonstop. Even in 4x4 is was doing them. It might have something to do with the crappy racing firestones but it sure was fun. What a difference from playing with my jetta in the snow.

Cheers.

P.s. I finnaly got my esp off fixed at the dealer, it's an official fix now, I'm so happy.

OOOPs. Ok guys, for you out their that know of my posts. That was a typo. I meant to say, I mean NO insult. Sorry about that.

OK, so MUCH thanx to this great forum. I just went out to try and apply ESP FULL OFF and, what do you know, didn't work,..just partial. Before i go to the dealer tomorrow am i missing something ? I pressed and help the ESP button for 10 seconds, the partial light just kept on, no chiming, no message, nada. I tried while in park, in neutral, in 4WD lock. Before i look like a dumbass at the dealer ( wouldn't be the first time ) did i do anything incorrectly ? ALSO for those of you who had the reflash, how long sis it take (approx) LOTs of snow headin my way this weekend. Thanx in advance.

You have to press the button twice. And pretty fast. I should say espoff.

What? No. Short press of the button toggles between ESP fully on and partially on. Long press turns the ESP fully off - regardless of which other mode you were in when you started.

Jeepguy, as long as that 10 seconds was really 10 seconds you did exactly right. The computer is borked, have the dealership reprogram it.

(ESP does not require 4WD lock, and should work even in D as long as you are fairly stationary (somewhere below 10km/h forward speed is okay) the whole time you press the button. Putting it in park or neutral is the sure-fire way to get it to work.)

Ok, it seems like it doesnt matter if the esp is on or partially off as long as you push it ten seconds then.

Off topic:
Had a long trip in the mountains today. To search for a cabin I drove on a "road"/path with 6-8 inches of snow for 3 miles in 0 degrees celcius = crappy conditions. (or 15-20 cm and 5 km) where no one lives. If I got stuck, I probably wouldnt have been found until next spring. Pretty happy I had the pat :smiley_thumbs_up:

Had some fun driving on side streets and hills in Vancouver today. My ESP light finally flashed and engaged for a few seconds (first time in 10,000KM) when my wheels spun a little as I was stopping and accelerating up hill on ice... I was ready to believe it ESP engagement was a myth! I was impressed with Pats handling in the snow and on the ice. In regular drive, 4wd, esp partial off or any other way I could drive with control anywhere. Made a u-turn going down hill on the narrow street to go up hill on sheer ice, where I have watched every car, truck and other SUVs to slide and back up to the alley giving up. Stock tires 215/65/17 for now, so it should be even better on Yoko's A/T or Firestone Destination. Gotto find more snow on the weekend on some mountain roads... can't wait!

I went today to the dealer with the ESP-off TSB in hand to fix it. I spent 1/2 hour to explain what a TSB is (they thought it was a recall - and they still believe it) and another 1/2 hour to explain what is the function "ESP full off". Finally the employee with a BIG silly smile, arranged me an appointment with the service for next week. Let's see...
