Well last night I was heading to the hospital to visit my dad and a waterfall of water came down from the dome light. It had been raining all day. I thought it was fixed since it has not leaked since I had it at the dealer about a month ago. Now I got to take it back. The first time I did not mind because its a common problem and thought it would get fixed the first time. The service guy seemed confident that it was fixed. Now I'm worried that they may not get it fixed right and I will have to lemon law it or something. I can't afford to have to buy a new vehicle and with the auto industry hurting I don't know how willing they will be to give me another patriot if it comes to that. I really love the patriot but I can not stand having it leaking. Especially since it is leaking worse now then the first time it happened.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Call the Chrysler customer assistance line so that your concern is documented. Chances are you will be told to take it back to the dealer again so they can send out a Chrysler "water specialist" to take a look at it.

I feel your pain. I just had mine fixed for the 4th time and I informed the manager I spoke to at the Chrysler CA department that I would be beginning the buyback process the next time a leak occurs.

Sorry for you and I understand your concern. Hope the second time is the right one.

Man, it is such a hopeless feeling to think a water leak is fixed and find out it isn't. I have a 1992 MX3 that suddenly started leaking two years ago. You know it is bad when you are glad there is a drought in the area just so the car will stay dry.

Does it have those washers on the screws like the screws you use on a metal roof?
Has anyone had the leaking water problems with an 09 Patriot?

What were the engineers thinking when they designed this body ??
In this day and age of CAD/CAM, Design Models, etc. there is no excuse for this happening.
The Pat is such a bright spot in Chrysler's line-up, but things like this put the dimmer on it pretty fast.
Is it finally fixed on the '09's ?? Any insiders here ??

Knock on wood, I haven't had any leaking problems the 10 months I have had my 08.

I know you would think they could come up with some effective fixes for this, really there are only a few spots that are really even possibilities for the leak, like the cross rails, the top of the liftgate, and if one has a sunroof that.

You'd think it would also be more often than not the same problem on most of the leaky pats.

It seems like more of a production error then design flaw.

I say this because if it was a design flaw, we would all be having these leaks. Clearly someone is not putting the sealent, or gasgets, were they are supposed to on the production line.

When i look at the areas were the patiot has production pinch welds to hold it together i can tell you that it is no different that any other small suv. The other car we own is a 2001 ford escape and it has seams in the exact same places that the patriot does. If it was a design flaw, these other manufactorers would be having the same problem.

Sound like its a lazy friday production thing, or something more along those lines. What ever happened to having pride in ones work? I guess when you get paid too much to do a simple job, you lose that pride. Maybe chrysler need to go supervise the guy sealing up the external seams in the factory.

Either way im sorry to hear about the problems. Hopefully the dealer, and chrysler, can get it worked out for you.

Hate to hear you are having problems with the PAT. I bought a new 08 with a sunroof in June of this year and no problems so far. Good luck and keep up the pressure on the dealer.

I was able to hear & see the rain water dripping in between the moonroof gasket and roof opening, It came in so fast the internal drains couldn't handle the water and the front dome light collected the excess water and leaked it into the cab.
The dealer replaced my moonroof glass & gasket 3 months ago, so far so good.

I have had the same problem with my 07. Chrysler is buying it back at this time through the Michigan Lemon Law. I filed the paperwork on September 14 and just today got the paperwork to make the transaction final. Our Pat was in 5 times for a leak and 12 other times for other issues. 34 total days in the shop did the trick. What a PAIN!! Now my wife is getting a Caravan! Guess that is what I get for having all these kids!!!

I got my patriot back last night. I talked to the service manager and he said he found something on the internet about the sunroof. He said it was not an official TSB but it was from the engineers. It said the whole sunroof assembly has to be perfectly aligned within a 2mm spec. So they did that and checked the drains and tested it and they said everything was ok. Now I'm waiting for the next rain storm to see if it really is fixed.

I hope this is not going to leak again on you metalhead. That is enough, if you would have wanted to clean it you would have maybe used the vacuum, not get the interior flooded. So the best of luck.

The one leak problem mentioned on this site that really blew me away was the one where Jeep had to re weld the roof! The roof joins the body along an edge instead of bending down as most more aerodynamic car roofs do. That edge is welded on the assembly line by robotic welders. So you have the "normal" sunroof problems and sealant goof problems, but this is a beaut! There is no way the dealer can solve this problem without having the seam fixed. I don't know how many cars were affected by the errant robot, but it is a very upsetting discovery. So far my car has been absolutely dry, but I am taking special care to NOT load anything on the roof rack, just in case.

6th time in service: Found leak spot in rear roof corner

That is a hole (it was less of course, but ragged off) under plastic molding, it has to be carefully covered with special sealant.

Another angle

This is under roof, you can see where water comes through from hole in previous picture, tested puring water on molding ang getting all water inside

This is a round hole covered with plastic cap in the middle of upper side of open trunk, first place they were looking for leak reason

We had this problem recently. The sunroof seal doesn't work too well and there is a new sunroof seal that the dealer should install. The seal parts from the drain vents that drain water from the sunroof area down the A-pillars. When the seal breaks the water pools in the dome light or runs down the A-pillar and shoots up from the windshield area. If your dealer doesn't know about this or you are having problems e-mail me and I'll give you my service advisor's name and number since he knows all about it. The sunroof seal takes about 5-6 hours to fix....
