Hi

I am a double Patriot owner :) I spend half the year in the UK and the other half in Central Florida where I own a firearms training business.

In the UK I have a 2007 2.0 CRD Sport stick shift and in Florida I have a 2008 2.4L Limited with CVT transmission, and I love em both. I have previously owned a Wrangler, a few XJ's and a couple of Grand Cherokees. I bought a 2007 CRD for two reasons, it was really low mileage (20,000) and it has no DPF.

I have no problems at all with the 2008 which I bought last year with only 50,000 miles on it.

The CRD however is another story. I have had no major problems with it since I bought it 2 years ago and it has currently covered 38,500 miles. Last month it lost power and that fixed by replacing the turbo to intercoller hose which had split. Recently it started to run a little lumpy on tickover and hesitates a little after a gear change when accelerating, any ideas?

Welcome to the community! It's awesome that you have the opportunity to have a CRD as well. I'd be curious to see how you like it compared to the 2008 you have in the states in terms of driving and power output.

The CRD has way more low end torque and in general is better to drive (if you like stick). The big bonus is that I am averaging around 49.2 miles to an imperial gallon, that equates to 41 miles to a U.S. gallon. With the gas engine I get an average of 28.6 miles to a U.S. gallon which is around 34 miles to an imperial gallon, which are both bettter than the manufacturer's advertised figures (Florida's flat :) ). I don't drive either of them easy, I push them.

Lumpy / Misfire on CRD ?? First thing , fit new fuel filter . Ignore Jeep UK Handbook & change fuel filter on every annuall service.

Thanks. That was my first thought and I'm getting it done on wednesday (I am currently in the UK) while it's in for a new master cylinder (spongy brakes).

I'd love to get my hands on a CRD over here in the states. It would be a blast. Thanks for the input.
Funny you should mention that. I've been looking at importing a (LHD) 2.0 CRD to Florida for a while (they're not expensive and a lot of low mileage ones around). All that needs to get changed are the European spec lenses (Florida has no emissions restriction :) ) Cheapest price for shipping I got so far is $750. All engine parts are VW

In the continent there is also the 2.2 CRD which is even better (mercedes engine)!!

And even the 2.0 crd is way better than the petrol one. If u see the graph or horsepower driving up to 3000 rpm in in the petrol one in esssence there is about 105 HP (the 170 HP is at very low revs which practically never used)

Where as even the 2.0 Crd at around 2500 rpm gets the maximun HP

Not mentioning torque 320 Nm as opposed 230 NM for the petrol!!

This is true. However, the Merc engine is less reliable AND it has a diesel particulate filter which causes problems. The trade off between slightly more power with the Merc against the reliability and cheaper cost of parts of the VW PD engine, for me, the VW is a no brainer

I agree , always try & get a Diesel without a DPF . Although they are mandatory in UK /Europe as from 2011 , They can cause untold problems on low use & slow " town "journeys . Even on Jaguars !!!

Touch wood, I've had no problems with the EGR yet. First time it clogs, it gets removed, blanked off and deleted :)

I have a 2.0 ltr crd vw engine the good thing is they can be tweaked up to 180bhp with the startech power module that was designed by Mercedes when they had the ownership over here I bought one in the box of ebay dirt cheap.
