Question on Cord through Firewall AGAIN!

I have asked this question before and received a answer, but I am a little unclear as to where this hole is on the firewall I would like to use it for my interior car warmer. There is suppose to be a hole under a heat shield on the passenger side, it was mentioned that just have to lift the bottom left corner up and trace the windshield washer line through the firewall. The only heat shield I see is not a soft flex more of a tin plate flex, (shown in the attached picture) do I take this one off or is it the wrong one altogether.

nerrad, I too have asked the same question. Although their is some information on it, I cannot find it. It is said to be in the general area you are referring to, but I would like so see a picture of it also. I am sorry this does not specifically help you, but at least you know you are not the only one.

Nope its not under the heat sheild. Look to the left much more. Its behind some other heat sheild material to the left. Theres a rubber gromet there too. Just follow the windhsheild wiper hose through it, you cant miss it. Also you will probably need to use my favorite tool to run the wire, a metal close hanger! Just straighted it out and tape the string to the end of it once youve threaded it through. Works great!

look for it on the inside, its easier to find.

pull carpet back and look for the rubber tube going into the firewall.

pull out grommet, disconnect the tube from the joiner (beware a little water will come out)

stick a wire hanger through and then go look from the engine side.

ok I've tagged Kc's pic to show you which tube to follow in the engine bay.

I just went and took a pic on the inside (drivers side Aus/Euro spec so dont mind the pedals)

no need to pull back carpet, just look up high on the right (this may be behind carpet on US model)

Mud. I found the washer grommet from the inside per your direction. But with a N.Am Pat, it's tucked behind the glove compartment and not easily accessible without removing the glove box. I shone the flashlight thru a side crack when the glove box is opened.
I'm going to try to access underneath the glove box, which is shielded by a piece of felt covered board.

makrinos001. how did you access the grommet opening from the inside?

Yup thats the one. If you push it in, it opens up. Because I was running low gauge wire, the gromet would not fit it in there. So I found some random rubber stopper I had lying in my toolbox and drilled out a larger hole in it. Then put that in its place and run all the wires through it. I remember seeing another thread somewhere about one opening in the drivers side that can be accessed by removing the tire well plastic. Good Luck.

So if I push the grommet in will I be able to see it from under the dash without taking the glove box apart. I looked at that today but I didn't see any pins to push in in order to remove the box as said in the previous thread. I don't want to get to close to the air bag.

Ok, nerrad, it's time to start being a man.

roll up your sleeves and get in there and pull stuff out till you get where you need to be.

It will all go back together later (dont stress) , and you can't set off the air bag by acciedent.

Heres what you do.

1. The glove box will come full down (not stop on the pins) if you squeeze in the side of the glove box and pull down. The glove box has relief strips cut into the side so you can do this.

2. From the engine bay, push the gromet in. This will pop it out, but into the cabin.

3. Take a metal clothes hanger, straighten it out, and thread it through the hole. This will allow you to follow the hanger to see exactly where the line comes in. You can pull the gromet down and cut/move/whatever it, whichever you prefer. I cut mine off the put on a new one. You could also use some dops of heat resistant silicon.

4. Run your wires! Its that easy!

But is this for a 4x2 or trail rated model? Is the procedure the same?

OK Makrinos001 and Mud I rolled up my sleeves today and followed your instructions almost to a tee, thank-you very much for this. The only thing I didn't have to do was use a coat hanger to feed the wire through. Thanks for the kick in the ass Mud, you saved me $75 at the dealership.

Everything about both models are exactly the same, so yes, this is for all Patriot models.
