Adding steering wheel control mod with an aftermarket system.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone know if it is possible? I know that if the wiring is already there and routed directly to the radio opening, then its just a matter of adding the buttons, hooking the up, and using an after-market steering wheel control adapter (which I'm no stranger to) Any input, or ever a WIRING DIAGRAM would be greatly appreciated!

U will need the harness and buttons and have the dealership add the option via starscan.. yes it is possible but the dealership usually will charge at least $100 to just hook up the starscan so if u think it's worth it go for it

Please elaborate as to what exactly starscan is and why it is needed to carry signals to the harness behind the radio. I understand that programming is required to add steering controls to a factory head unit because it is not programmed to receive it. However, MY Navi unit is made to receive those inputs using an adapter, which I still have from my last ride (they're 99% universal). When I had my head unit out to temporarily connect the subs until the rest on my install hardware shows up, I noticed a small, unused plug with ~4 wires that I was hoping was the input wires. On the same thread that I read about needing to re-prog the PCM for the factory radio that the plugs for the buttons are already there and you can just get the buttons (instead of the whole steering wheel) on eBay. So I was HOPING I could just install the buttons, tap into the unused secondary radio harness (if that's what it is), and viola! - Steering wheel controls.

I had already kinda figured that it was in reference to the PCM/OBD programming. Didn't know Chrysler had their own name for it. But again, it is my understanding (I may be wrong) that reprogramming is necessary for the FACTORY RADIO. I'm calling dealerships trying to get a diagram or a strait answer as to if the wires are already run and if they carry a signal without going through the PCM. If it turns out that's any more than what I described as my HOPEFUL situation above, i'm gonna scrap the idea....

Does ANYONE have a wiring diagram???

No-Go

OK, just talked to a dealer and I guess they moved away from a standard harness for both systems to having different steering wheel wiring harnesses for with & w/o steering wheel controls. I didn't even get the price once we figured out that there was no way for me to install the harness & buttons in the steering wheel without removing the airbag; which is a deal-breaker for me (I've removed airbags before and wish to avoid doing so ever again). So that's it for the steering wheel controls.
