I plan on starting super early, like 7am on the trail head. I don't have all terrains, and i am not even 100% sure my 4x4 works (it seems like it does, but need to actually try it out) anyways, if anybody is interested let me know. There might be a good chance you are going to be towing me out of there!

you'll at least be able to laugh at me and my broken jeep!

Depends on what characteristic you are looking at. On road patriot wins hands down. Even on some of the sandy runs patriot could go faster stop faster and 100×'s more comfortable. But for off road traction, the cherokee with a limited slip in the rear wins hands down. Even with barley aired down highway tires vs all terrain tires aired down to 15psi.

With better tires, refreshed brakes, a better running engine, and some suspension upgrades, I think the 27 year old cherokee will hold its own.
