Hey all, I was shown that my subframe is rusty, and that I should contact chrysler about this. The surprising thing is this.

I applaud chrusyler for giving us a 10 year extended warranty on this, but I am not even sure if mine is covered yet. I havnt taken it in. Heres why! The mechanic whom I spoke with, he says hes the head mechanic, has advised me that the replacement is covered and isn't that hard of a job. But that being said your looking at a HUGE bill when you come to pick it up. Because only the subframe and crossmembers are covered, ANYTHONG else they touch...as he put it, cut off, to make it quicker, will be replaced with chrysler oem parts, and this comes out of your pocket, and then to add injury to insult a charge for a wheel alignment after all is said and done, he said probably a couple grand to fix.

My jeep is a 2009 pat, 76000 kms, its on its 3rd front end ( control arms, ball joints, tie rods, sway bar links etc.). I am at my wits end keeping up with this thing.

And to add injury to insult, my front dash lit up like an xmas tree on the way to work this morning, its got the abs, brak light, esc lights and tracyion control lights all on. I was told its most likely a speed sensor. Which can be replaced fairly easy...another catch, bring it into see which one, its a 69.99 charge to have the reader see which one..wow...i'm shocked how they can get aay with this.

Can anyone add some light to this...anyone had the subframe replaced etc???

Love to hear from you guys about it.

Thanks in advance!

Chrysler action # 23-012-14.
That applies to 2007 Patriots.

Anyway, good luck OP. I've had all the issues you describe and more, and Chrysler hasn't been any help. Spent a fortune on replacing just about everything under the jeep, they all just rust away like steel wool.

Just had mine replaced on my 2008 Patriot part was $650 labor $400. Any chance 2008's will get the extended warranty?? if there are enough complaints?? I'd love to post a pic of this thing but don't know how.

My Patriot is a 2007 Diesel Limited uk. The front sub frame has been 'mentioned' in my yearly MOT (3 years from new) for the last 3 years. Rear sub frame just been set as an advisory for this years MOT. The car has 44k miles on, never off road, never seen snow etc etc.

Lousy part quality, also an advisory for the front lower suspension rubber.

just found a four inch x 1 inch rust hole in the sub frame of my 98,000 mile 08, was quoted $500 labor from the dealer, found a local repair shop with excellent reviews that welds frames and guarantees them to pass Pa Inspections , will weld the entire back side for $159 + tax...I jumped on it! the only rust on the entire underside will soon be remedied.

I have a 2008 Patriot with a manufacture date of September 2007. I just had the oil changed at the Jeep dealership. When I picked it up, they told me my front crossmember was rotted through with holes in it. They said it would need to be replaced soon.

I read the threads on this forum and on the Compass forum about the extended warranty offered to 2007 owners and how some 2008 Compass owners with the same problem obtained coverage even though their Compasses were made after the July 31, 2007 cutoff date. One had a manufacture date of November 2007 and another October 2007.

I contacted Jeep Cares and they don't care. The representative said the extended coverage only covered those models made through July 31, 2007. I asked for a manager and was told a manager would have to call me back. That was 5 days ago and no call back.

This is a safety issue and they should be covering the 2008s with the same parts as 2007s.

Kori, I also am a Jeep Patriot owner. (I have a 2016 model.) In the pursuit of further demonstrating Jeep Cares... Could you post your response here to this thread and on this forum? I am sure other fellow Pat owners would also appreciate knowing your...FCAs response. Or if not, at least post a link to or mention that "other" forum. :|
Thanks in advance

Hi Tim,

It wasn't anything fancy :) I just asked him to send me his VIN so I could look into the issue. That's usually what we'll ask for if someone is having a concern, so we can review further!

Had to have our Subframe replaced...none to happy about it either. Not covered under the salt belt warranty/recall though, it clearly should be...dealer even looked up the part number and said it was the same as the 2008 which is covered under warranty/recall...same problem, same part, not covered. I called Chrysler and pled my case...they were less than receptive. Refused to consider helping one bit.

Very disappointing, indeed.

I also have a Sub-Frame rusting problem with my 2009 Jeep Patriot. My dealer agreed that it should not have rotted with 109K miles so they brought the case to the District Manager who declined the request. They stict to the 3 year, 30K miles warranty. The dealer then gave me an number to call to plead my case to jeep customer service - 800-992-1997. I spent ~ 30 minutes explaining everything and then was put on hold for another 15 minutes while the guy called the dealer. After all this he came back and said that they could not overturn the District Managers decision. So then why was I given the additional phone number to call? They said there was nothing else I could do! So I plan on never buying a Jeep again! There are many other SUV's to select from. I hate to say it but the Korean vehicles are excellent quality and they stand behind their products as opposed to hiding behind them as Jeep is doing to us. Very sleazy mode of operation....... they have a know problem and won't help!

I've had the exact same thing happen with my 2008 Jeep Patriot which apparently there are no recalls on...cost me approximately 2000.00 as I was driving and with no warning my subframe snapped causing the car to come to a complete stop thank god no one was seriously injured
