hello, community, I just bought a jeep patriot 2010, I have working 1 radiator fan, the mechanic told me that's how it works. I wonder if it is true, and what's the other fan function.

To check to see if both fans work, turn on the AC. With the AC on, both fans should spin at full speed. If not, something's not working properly.

As mr_ete2 mentioned, both fans should work.

Could be a problem with the fan, a fuse, a connection somewhere, a problem with a relay or connection in the relay box, the output from the TIPM, or something else.

can please someone help me - i have 2013 jeep patriot, radiator fans only work with AC on. i have checked 5 relays near bumper and other related fuses in fuse box - coolant sensor has been replaced as well

It does take a while for the cooling fan to kick on. How long have you let it sit while idling? And is the engine overheating? Another possibility is you have a stuck open thermostat and the engine may never get hot enough to trigger the fan. Our engines have two thermostats, a 173 deg. F (78 C)main stat and a 203 deg. F (95 C) secondary. If either of them stick open it may allow too much cooling.
