Last January 4,000 miles ago, i had a tire repaired. They did one of those plug and patch contraptions. What's your opinion on these?
A couple times a year, I usually make a 3,200 mile round trip to visit my mom. As a family we take the Sedona but when I go solo, I take that beautiful patriot. I didn't take it last year but this spring I will be going solo. Should I have any concerns about it?
Over the years I've had quite a few tires plugged or patched. Never had an issue. 2 of my current tires have plugs that I did myself. Over 40k miles on them with no issues.
Plug & patch is fine as long as it's not close to the sidewall. Most professional shops won't do a risky repair, so if it was done by a reputable shop, the tire should be good.
Good idea. I'm getting new tires on now. I always have my cordless impact wrench with me on long trips. I'm not sure where i would put a full size spare with all my fishing gear.
Now I remember your question about where to put a spare. If you're doing serious off-roading to get to your favorite fishing spot, packing a real spare is a very good idea. The air pump won't help with a torn tire and AAA is not going off road to find you.
