A neighbor has a 2015 Patriot Sport with 50k miles, unit would not start so unit was towed to the dealer and she has been informed that she needs a crankshaft sensor, plus the battery is weak from sitting a the dealer for two weeks.
The dealer wants almost $300.00 to fix the problem, is this a common failure in this vehicle?
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Crankshaft sensor failure happens occasionally; it isn't rare but it's not an every day occurrence either.

A five year old battery being weak from sitting two weeks isn't surprising.
