What's up, team!

So, I need to move unexpectedly from Southern California to Miami. I will be driving my 2015 Sport 2.0.

I have been looking up tow capacities and I am getting conflicting information so, I would greatly appreciate some straight answers:

1) Is my towing capacity 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000?
2) How do I know if my car has the engine oil cooler installed (bought second hand last year)
3) Which wiring setup/tow kit works best with my trim.

A little background: Ideally, I would find a small motorcycle trailer to haul my bike (weighs ~450lbs) the entire trip with myself (weigh 150), my dog (weighs 65lbs) and two adults (their total weight 300lbs). Not anticipating to haul many personal belongings other than some clothes, etc.

I have about 5 weeks to prepare for this trip and I want to get ahead of installs/supplies.

Any and all advice would be incredible.

Thank you all for the support!

Per the 2015 owners manual, the 2.0L is limited to 1000 lbs gross trailer weight / 150 lbs tongue weight, whether you have the oil cooler or not.
The 2.0 is a modest power plant, and yes, the towing capacity is 1000 lbs. It sounds like you're going to be right around the limit. Of course the vehicle won't self-destruct at 1001 lbs, but the limit is there for a reason.

I have a hitch on my 2014 FWD 2.0 5-spd. U-haul installed it. They've done a couple others for me over the years and I've been happy with them. They did the wiring, and didn't even charge me a couple years later to fix the wiring after a body shop messed up the connection while fixing a minor fender-bender.

I've pulled a mid-sized U-haul (single axle) full of furniture with Wife in the car. The two of us probably weigh 350 lbs together, and I'm guessing the furniture weighed about as much as your motorcycle so probably around 800 - 1000 lbs total. Remember the trailer counts as weight too. I only went about 100 miles with that load, but it was a hot summer day (high 80s F) with lots of ups & downs, but no real mountains. We had no problems, but it does handle differently with that kind of a load -- brakes, cornering, etc. I frequently pull my open trailer (5x8) with my lawn tractor with absolutely no issues, though I'm sure my "tractor" (overgrown riding mower) weighs less than your motorcycle.

If you're going to be driving long days through the Rockies and across the deserts, I think you may run a risk of overheating the tranny. Keep an eye on your engine temp -- that will give you an idea of how hard the vehicle is working. Drive it easy and make plenty of rest stops to let it cool. Pray for rain!

PS, How old is your tranny fluid? Consider getting it changed. If you have the CVT, the tranny should be serviced at least every 50,000 miles. I don't know about the 6-spd automatic, but it sure wouldn't hurt.
Tranny fluid is a good call. I am the second owner and my car has almost 90k. I can only assume it has never been changed. I will add it to the list.
I might have found an alternative solution but, because I have never hauled anything, I am not sure if this option is realistic:

Basically, I would get the OEM kit installed and then buy this. Hook it up, load up my bike, strap it down and I’m good to go. Not sure if the towing restrictions apply in the same way if the cargo is mounted this way.

Also, what is tongue weight?

The amount of weight put on the trailer hitch.

If you have the CVT, along with the fluid and filters change you might want to consider adding another transmission cooler to the factory cooler.

Ditto Sandstone. Tongue weight is the weight that's actually on the hitch itself. Just balance your load so the weight isn't all on one end of the trailer or the other. Just common sense.
Ok so with the tongue weight limit being 150lbs - I would NOT be able to use the above mentioned motorcycle hitch carrier since my bike alone weights 450lbs, right?

They're talking about a carrier that mounts into the hitch receiver, which bears all the weight.
I was going to disagree. However, looking at the photo OP posted, you're correct. In the first post I thought Spade was loading this onto a trailer like I do with my lawn equipment. Agreed, no way on a carrier!
I was thinking something like this:

Looking at this photo, I'm guessing there's more than 150 lbs on the tongue, but you get the idea.

You guys are amazing. This community is so supportive.

I have all of the information I need thanks to you. All things considered, it looks like my budget and vehicle limitations will only allow for a Harbor Freight trailer that I will modify with a motorcycle rail. That plus a Reese tow hitch kit and I’ll be well within my Pat’s restrictions to tow. Links included below. Thanks again, y’all!!!

You're welcome, and good luck on the trip!

One last thing, IDK if you have the CVT or not, but if you do you might get something to monitor the trans temp, like a Scangauge or an android app like CVTz50 - CVT diagnostics with ELM327.
Is there an easy way to determine whether I have the CVT or not?

Open the hood and look for the CVT fluid filler tube cap:

You can also use the VIN to get a factory build sheet that should tell you:

This is from 2007 but according to this if the sixth character in the VIN is F or G, then you'd have a CVT.
That info is from post #9 in this thread: Patriot VIN: Decoder that gives the Sequence Numbers...
Sixth character is a P so no go for CVT. I will be getting the transmission fluid replaced just to be safe!

@Spade , a word of caution on using the sixth digit, it isn't always accurate for years 2014+.

Here's a 2015 FWD 2.0l with a CVT with sixth digit = "P"

Running the VIN through the build sheet server confirms a CVT II transmission (pg 4 below).
