I'm signing up for my mom's Patriot. 2014 base model, accidentally ordered as a manual by the dealer. 2.0L I think, FWD. It has electric windows and mirrors, so that's super fancy by my definition. She ended up buying it because of a comparative score sheet I created, and the dealer was trying to get rid of their accidental order real cheap.

It's had the clutch, slave cylinder, master cyl done. That was a nightmare. The parts for the ABS came in two months after ordering it, but it took a while to find it before that because Jeep quit making it. Also had a leaky taillight, which was replaced with a Mopar one. I'll start a thread for the gas cap issue. I know what you're thinking, and yes, it's been the most reliable Jeep the family has owned. (Two 2015 Wranglers and a 2020 Gladiator)

Anyways, I figured I'd sign up here to help keep the thing going, and maybe share some info on stuff we've fixed.

Nice to meet y'all.

Welcome! Wife & I are driving a FWD Patriot 2.0 5-spd manual. Seems a lot like yours except ours has wind-up windows and door-locks like a Jeep should. ;)

As for an accidental order, my first Patriot (2008) was FWD that I think the dealer ordered as a come-on. The low sticker looked great on the showroom floor and they could advertise "Starting at $15,000!" Then of course they steer the buyer to something with more bells & whistles. Then Chrysler got into financial trouble and my future Jeep languished on the showroom floor because everyone in New England thinks they need 4wd. I happened in at the right time. I've lived in New England all my life so I knew that FWD with good tires is very competent in snow or light off-road conditions and I wasn't afraid to buy it. I asked the dealer how bad he wanted to sell it. He said, "Bad!" He trimmed some off the already low sale price and I got him to throw in cruise control, fog lights, and the roof rack to sweeten the deal. I sold it at 275,000 miles to a friend and his wife is still driving it. I saw her in it this week. Now around 315,000 I think.

My 2014 is also FWD. Someone else traded it early so we bought it in 2015. We liked our 2008 Patriot so much we wanted another. It's at 190,000 miles and so far hardly any repairs. However 5th gear is making a hum and my dealer declined to fix it. He said the repair would cost almost as much as a new tranny and advised me to wait until it actually needed fixing and then go the distance. All I've done to it was an axle bearing. Otherwise just routine maintenance.

The nice thing about FWD is the fuel economy is far better than the AWD models. We're always over 30MPG and on a long trip it can get do better. See post 107 in this thread: JeepPatriot.com gas mileage tips

Again, welcome!

@Ignatz Oh man, it would be cool to have the manual windows. We figured there was no manual option for those since this one has nothing else.

Yeah, while I intend to keep my Patriot for a long time to come, I have poked around on car sites. With the current shortage, they are loading options onto cars because that's where they make their money, and forcing buyers to buy all the stuff they don't need (or want). The best cars I've owned, including my Patriots, were pretty bare-bones.

I'm on the Compass site, and the lion's share of complaints revolve around electronics. Technology has outpaced reliability by a long shot.
