My '10 (with sunroof) has leaked there twice in recent months. The first time the dealer found debris in the sunroof drain tubes. The second time they didn't find anything. We've had a lot of heavy rain this spring, and it didn't leak, so it's really annoying that it happens seemingly at random. I've started looking at the dome light when I first get in the car. Never know when my Garmin will get leaked on. Very irritating.

I tried siliconing the whole back, lasted for 6 months and started to leak.

I got sick of it and emailed CEO and they was able to honor it under warranty. Car is 4 years old and had 80000km.

The repair cost them $360 and considering they couldn't fine the problem. The took the whole headliner out and resealed everything! So far its been about 4 months and so good!

I feel sorry for you. My 09 pat has leaked since literally day 1. The last three weeks we've had tons of rain and gushing water out of the front and middle dome lights as well as along the top of the windshield and headliner and the right front a-pillar. I've brought it in so may time sin the past with the same result every time "unable to duplicate the problem".

I've suggested taking the headliner out so they can ACTUALLY see where the water come sin but their response has something to do with warranty not allowing them to do that much work.

I am going through the steps to do this:

http://www.camvap.ca/eng/camvap_for_me.htm

I called chrysler canada headquarters last week where the person there told me i need to contact the service manager and give her one last shot to do something about the problem and then I can call headquarters back before I'm allowed to start arbitration. As of yesterday the idiots at the dealership still were only having the pat sit there for hours with water running over the top of it and couldn't see a leak. After explaining it to them for the 10th time that you can actually see the leak as it happens but that the leak appears once the jeep starts moving AFTER a rain and the water comes pouring out like niagara falls. Talking to them is like dealing with blind monkeys.

Anyway I'm waiting foe a call today. I sort of hope they don't take the headliner out and don't find the leak so i can call headquarters and maybe if i'm lucky go on to arbitration and get them to buy this piece of sh!t back from me. although I'm not sure the company would let it go that far.

Godd luck with that!

Mine leaks also w/ the same mysterious leak on/leak off symptom. It has rained like a freakin' monsoon and I didn't have a drop of water come in; other times it leaks in via the from map lights.

I suspect it's some sort of structural integrity issue around the sunroof. Figure this one out:

I was at the dealership regarding another issue some three months ago and discussed the leak with the tech; he thought it was the sunroof drain tubes, so w/ the sunroof open he poured some water into the canal. He first did this on the front left side of the opening, and about 7 seconds later it drained out somewhere around the front left tire. Then he did the same on the right side (it drained out near the front right tire). He said this shows the tubes are clear! An hour later after the Jeep work's finished, I'm pulling out of the dealership and - WTF - it starts leaking water into the cab via the map lights! This is after he proved the two front drains were open. It's possible the back drains were clogged, but ... nearly all the water hard already drained, so hard to see how the little excess water left could have rolled up over the rim (!?) The only thing I can think of is that the metal around the sunroof has one or more cracks that's letting water though. Other ideas?

Leak in Dome Light and A Pillar

At the Carolina shore and heavy rain this morning. Went to car and dome light and A pillar are leaking. This is the first time this has happened. Does Chrysler have a solution for this?

Duchoma, From everything I've read so far it doesn't appear that Chrysler has a definitive answer as to why their Patriots leak. Some possible answers are:

- Poor sunroof seal that lets in too much water (letting in a little is OK, as there are drainage canals)
- Drainage canals are too small and therefore clog up too easily
- Poor seals in other body penetration points (luggage rack, etc)
- Possible cracks in the body in the sunroof area?

Most folks that have this leak problem have sunroofs. But some w/o the sunroof also have it.

I was at a dealership for another issue, and the mechanic poured some water into the rim area on each front side of the sunroof, and both times the water drained out through the wheel wells. This is exactly what it is supposed to do. He said this proves they aren't clogged. However, when I rode away about 1/10 of a mile down the street water started leaking - this made no sense. I think mine could have a crack or something in the metal that is letting in the water (???) It's very inconsistent.

Is your vehicle still under warranty? What year is it, and do you have a sunroof?

It is a 2009 Patriot. I do have a sunroof. It is still under warranty. What scares me is that Chrysler does not seem to have an answer. I would prefer a recall with a solution rather than a gremlin the dealer cannot fix. Thanks for the information.

I have this same issue with the 2009 Patriot I just bought used. While I'm not scared at all about it. I do see there is a pretty large issue here.

My issue is the rear dome light with the pull out flashlight. I have water pooling in the headliner. Going to take it in as my Jeep still has warranty.

Seems nobody has a clear answer here. Any tips to mentioned to them when I do take it in? I've got a baby on the way and cannot afford multiple trips to and from the dealership

I have the same problem. Today I went through the car wash and what a surprise the rear dome light was pouring out water. I can't find the source...

FYI.. had the same issue on my 2007 Jeep Patriot.. You should remove the spare Tire and check that area, as mines was all moldy... Guess it was leaking for some time.

Anyhow, I will update you guys.. I emailed the Chrysler CEO as I didn't want to spend time at the dealer and paying for some manufacturing BS.

I got a call back the next day and they set me up to a dealership that had in-house water leak test. They couldn't find it, so ended up pulling the whole headliner and resealing the roof with that hard factory stuff.. Best part was the rock hard silicone stuff they use is an exact paint match, so you can't tell.

The repair would of cost me $348.00 plus a weeks rental but it was totally free.

I had 80000km on the Jeep patriot, past the 3 years warranty.

Just a FYI..
