Hi all,
I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot Sport SE 2.0 CVT FWD with a little over 82,000 miles.
Over the last few days while driving, my ETC (red lightning bolt) light has been coming on intermittently. I usually drive around 4 miles to school and back, and it happens around 1-3 times per trip, mainly while I'm driving on inclines (especially uphill.) It'll usually be when I'm traveling around 40 mph maybe around 2-3k rpm, when the light will come on and my car will start gradually slowing down and is pretty much numb to gas pedal input. At first, it would come on on and off, and would jerk a bunch before going back to normal, but more recently whenever it comes on it'll flash on and off, stay on for a couple seconds, flash again and then go back to normal. It won't go anything above like 25 mph. Also earlier today the ESC light came on for a few seconds while that was happening, and then they both turned off at the same time. At times the throttle will also shortly cut out for just a second while driving but the light doesn't come on. I got an OBD diagnosis tool and no DTCs came up, so I'm not really quite sure what the exact issue is, as I've read a lot of forums with different info (ETC, bad throttle body, PCM/TCM etc.), so does anyone in here know exactly the issue could be? I'm taking the car in for service on Thursday so I'd just like to narrow it down beforehand. Thanks!

Thottle body seems most likely. I got the ETC light once when trying a sort of OBD2 plug-in performance enhancer thingy, but performance went right back to normal as soon as I unplugged it, haha.

Wiith 80k+ on the clock it's very possible the plastic gears in the throttle body are worn and slipping / binding, and depending on how it's failing the codes may be getting reset, or they're codes that your code reader doesn't see. Also, if the throttle body is malfunctioning it may effect the ESP systems ability to correctly control speed, so the ESP light comes on.

Please post back and let us know how it goes.

I had same issue with my 2011 Pat 4WD. I also lost about 30 miles a tank. Cleaned throttle body and all I got was better acceleration it was gummed up bad. I have 110,000 on my pat.
