Replaced the throttle body for $300. Everything seems to be working now. Also got the recall airbags done. I never had any other light besides my ETC light come on. So others might be having different problems.

Same issues

Having the same issues- power drops while driving, lights come on (including traction lights at times). Sensors read evap problem so they cleaned everything up and reset codes. Left shop and it immediately does it again. So do most people have success with the throttle being replaced? Or the sensor? If this many people have the exact same issue, why is there no recall??

Hi 08Jeep,

Do you have a 2008 Patriot? Is your Jeep dealership currently servicing your vehicle?

Updated my original post on Page 4. Turns out it was the Throttle Body - The new one to replace the bad one was defective, but after the whole fiasco I traded the vehicle in yesterday.

I thought about trading in my jeep but I like the saying "the least expensive vehicle to get is the one you currently own". I didn't see an immediate need to get something else providing that the patriot is reliable after the fix.

I had it at a local shop- they replaced the throttle body. Worked for a day and now the warning lights are back on (they flash now instead tho), and the tire traction light is back on with it too. Power drops and car shakes. Happens not even while driving now, just while stopped with car running. Yes, it's a 2008 Jeep Patriot.

It is a 2008 Patriot. The local dealership can't see it until the middle of next week. I had it at another shop in town.

If you are taking the appointment with the dealership, please feel free to send me your VIN in a private message. I can have a case opened for you and provide some follow up during the service appointment.

I just dropped my 2016 Patriot off at the dealer for the same issue. Started my car last night after work and all of a sudden I get a check engine light and a flashing ETC light.

Dealer replaced the MAP sensor on 11/15. On 11/20, yesterday, I got the check engine, traction control warning, and ETC light. Back at the dealer today. Super aggravating.

Dealer called and said they, again, found the issue. They replaced the throttle body. Picking it up tonight and will keep an eye on it. Will report back if issue occurs again.

Hey Garden, glad to hear that your dealership was able to replace the throttle body. If you continue to experience concerns with your Jeep, please shoot me a DM so I can open a Case and further assist.

I'm currently having the same issue with my 2008 Jeep Patriot. I turned the jeep on last night to let it warm up a bit before heading home. When I got in it to leave, the ETC light was blinking and the traction control light was on. It was in limp mode the whole way home (about 4 miles). From what I'm reading the throttle body seems to be my best place to start. I'm pretty handy and am confident that I can change the TB myself. What I'm not so sure about in the flash or relearn processes I've read about on this thread. Is that something I will need to have done at the dealership? I changed a TB on another vehicle a few years back and never had to flash/relearn. I'm trying to get a real understanding of the whole process so that I know what I'm getting into before I decide to do it myself or take it to the dealer and hand over ridiculous amount of hard earned money.

What is going on??

I started having the exact same issues as stated in the thread yesterday. 2016 jeep patriot Sport, 46,000k miles. I was going up a steep hill when it first happened. The ETC light and traction control lights both came on. My car immediately started to stall on the hill with a line of people behind me and no where to pull off. Scary moment. I had to keep my jeep under 30 on my hour trip back home. By the time I got home the check engine light came on along with the other two.

Taking it to my local shop to have it looked at. I hate to pay the labor to have someone replace the throttle body if I can do it myself. Is that pretty much the consensus here on how this issue has been fixed?

I just can't believe my ETC would be failing on a 2 year old car with less than 50k. Unreal.
