I don't know if this holds true for Patriot engines, but when my daughter's Sebring did this, it was a simple matter of replacing the oil pressure sensor.

Take the vehicle to a reputable mechanic. Tell them to check actual oil pressure. Oil pressure sensors can and do fail on these 2.0/2.4l engines.
Or the sensor could be telling the truth -- it could be the oil pump. Don't chance it.
I have a similar issue happening on the wife's Trailblazer with the 4.2l inline six. I put a manual gauge on it to verify. 70 lbs cold, 8 lbs hot at a 600 rpm idle but instantly jumps to 20 lbs at 750 rpm. Hits 40 lbs above 1500. Word on those forums is worn oil pump or clogged pickup tube, but given the instant rise, it's got to be the pump. There is a lot of disassembly to replace it though. Suspension, front diff, steering rack, intake, accessories...not looking forward to that job.
