Mine just started leaking!

Dubai - had water drain in through my front map light area over the weekend. We usually don't get much rain here in San Diego so maybe the problem was there the entire time but I never knew it? My problem is, my warranty expired last month :eek: I wonder if this is the type of problem that the manufacturer will have to fix regardless???

New Pat with a water leak

I just bought a Patriot on Sunday and so far I have loved the thing. Did discover a few drops of water this morning coming from my interior dome light. Around the button on the passenger side only. Have not noticed any other leaks so far. I live here in Columbus Ohio and we did get some rain last night. Not much, but I hear we are suppose to get hammered today. I typically park covered while at work but parked outside just to see what happens. I am hoping for the best but fearing the worse. Will take it to the dealership on Friday regardless of what happens today. I do have a sunroof and did not notice any water around the sunroof. Just around that one button. My Pat was parked outside at the dealership and the interior looks prestine. I guess I was thinking if leaks were an issue I would have noticed something when I was looking at the thing. Either way I am sure things will work out for me. Right now I am glad I spent the extra money for the exented warrenty covering water leaks as long as I own the thing. Even if it leaks at least it looks cool!!!

Probabbly it was me...had the same issue...problem was found and solved: there is a plastic molding on roof in both sides, at the rear end they took it off and found that on the corner of 2 or 3 metal sheets (roof, side wall and something else) that has to be welded together and coated with special sealing had a hole uncovered. So all water that comes from roof leak in that hole. Check my post with pictures and good luck: http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9838&page=2
My leaks required several trips to the dealer and they finally fixed it. There were discussions of holes and welding (I believe in the same spots as KemnitZ), as well as a complete sunroof/seal/drain tubes replacement. At one time, I had water in all three domes and my A Pillars. The rear dome was the most persistant leak and it was finally solved with welding. (My service rep sounded like he was in a state of disbelief that they had to do that!) They threw in beefier weather stripping around my hatch and painted on lots of black sealant around all of the potential openings back there, just for good measure.

Leak specialist

I just called my dealer (Peformance CJD) here in Columbus Ohio. And they have a leak specialist that comes in every Tuesday. Not sure if every dealership has something like that, but he did acknowledge that there have been issues here and there. Made it sound like this leak specialist travels the area. Did not ask if he was with Jeep or an independant person. Was hoping to take it in on Friday but I can wait until Tuesday. The one thing that did kind of tick me off is that I will only get a rental because I purchased the Care Plus Extended Warranty. In my opinion since I have only owned the thing for a few days a rental should be given to me free of charge regardless of what type of warranty I have. The guy that I spoke with was very helpfull so I am optomistic. Wish me luck people. Besides this I love the thing. Have always owned smaller econ cars like Cavaliers and a Chevette. My Pat feels huge to me but I love it so I am praying my leak gets fixed.

Just curious. Do the so called executives at Jeep read this column? Could be helpful to them so they know what their customers think of their product.

I'm in ontario canada and mine leaks aswell. The dealers have looked at it and have told me they can't find the leak, I even gave them the info from this forum to use as reference. My advice is if yours hasn't leaked yet get rid of it before it does!

once you buy the car from them, you're on your own. no dealer cares for anything. that is good advice.

Is there a way we could check our vin numbers and narrow down the exact day the leaking Patriots were made and post the assembly dates?

Sorry if this has been suggested already.

my "leak specialist" for my dealership was an independent person (they do go around on specific days, my dealership it was monday), i saw the bill that my dealer got for the trip to look at my car. i love(d) my jeep, but it has a huge flaw. this is not something isolated, it is an inherent flaw that is well documented and chrysler continues to do nothing but continue building poor cars. my dealership gave me a rental, and i did not buy any extended warranty. my car had 3700 miles, and it was less than 2 months old. they said if the car had to stay overnight for any reason, they were able to give me a rental on a one time basis. i have been scared to wash the car so that it doesn't leak again. but its going pour sooner or later, and i dont want to think about having the leak again.

I think he might mean the Sirius antenna. I do not have a leak on my 09 (so far) but I was looking at the Sirius antenna mount on the roof by the hatch and it has to have holes drilled into the top to get the cabling to the radio.

I would think the water was coming in there.

Any thoughts?

Is that what that is? I thought it might be the thermometer sensor. I've had leaks inthe back cargo area, as well. I've had the two lines sealed up (washer fluid line and electrical line) that are in the back on top of the hatch and behind the main seal, to no affect. It actually made it start leaking worse. Instead of seeping in around the cloth area around the dome light, it now pours out from the dome light itself. Looking at it the other day, while moving the Jeep during a heavy rain, I noticed bubbles coming out of the area where the little black plastic thing is on the back top of the vehicle. So, that means air was coming out, which means water was going in. I called and I am having them take a look at it the next time I take it in, so hopefully this will fix the problem. So, that's the Sirius atennae? Makes sense, I guess. Thanks for the info.
