Hi all,

I've had my '16 for about a year and a half now and I'm thinking I'm ready to do some modifications and I was figuring starting with switching lighting over to LED. I've noticed that there are unfortunately incredibly limited options when it comes to modding a Patriot, and even less so with ready off-the-shelf aftermarket parts. I did already switch the fog lights and interior dome lights over, but that's as far as I've gotten to date.

I was considering specifically for the tail lights between trying to just replace the bulbs, or trying to find some sort of plug-and-play housing and I came across these: 07 08 09 10 11 Jeep Patriot LED Tail Lights Plug & Play Red 1 Pair | eBay
(I'm also going to post a picture because it seems that a lot of the older posts on this forum with eBay links go to old/dead product pages: )
Automotive lighting Product Rectangle Red Automotive tail & brake light

So with these, the listing says that they're for '07-'11., but didn't the 2011 model year change the body style slightly? Are older tail light modules compatible with my '16? For OEM replacements of just the halogen housings, I keep seeing product listings for '08-'15, which leads me to believe that they're interchangeable....

I personally like the look of an array of LEDs (like you'd see for aftermarket Wrangler installs) rather than just the normal housing with an LED bulb replacement, but these are the only ones that I could find that matches what I'm looking for, unless I go really custom and try to make my own, which I'm not nearly skilled enough to accomplish.

If these don't work, what are my best alternatives??

Thanks for your time,
mtloya

Welcome to the group. Yes, unfortunately there's a surprising lack of mods available for the Patriots.

In 2010 the Patriot got new front and rear bumper covers and a new grille, but the rest of the body was the same.

From '08 - '17 the tail lights are all the same. '07 was the odd man out, but the only difference with the '07 is a 3rd bulb position for a separate, amber turn signal. '08 - '17 cheaped out and combined the turn signals with the brake lights.

Thank you! It's honestly a shame. There's plenty of mods for the other models but the Patriot didn't seem to get nearly the same amount of love...

Ahh, okay. Wasn't sure if the facelift was anything major, but that makes a lot of sense actually.

Okay, excellent. Might as well give those lights a whirl and see how it goes! Not entirely surprising that they tried to cut costs. Love how the housings still have the openings for the additional bulbs, too. I think I might split the reverse lights and double them up on each side with the extra clear space.... So many thoughts and options, haha.

Again, thanks for all of this. That definitely cleared some confusion up for me.

I have the Spyder dark tinted tail light housings with Diode Dynamics XP80 LED bulbs. Also drilled them out so I could run two pairs of reverse lights. Eventually I want to run a relay from the third brake light so I can add two more lights that don't act as turn signals, but I need to run some always-on 12v back there for some other projects first.

There might not be a ton of off the shelf parts but there's plenty of mods to do to these if you're creative. 😁

I never thought of adding a 2nd pair of reverse lights, but then I definitely don't need more light in reverse. When I installed my Curt hitch I had to remove my rear tow hook. It looked odd because you could see that something obviously belonged in that spot, so I installed a 4" LED light pod there. It's surprisingly bright. I have thought of modding my tail lights to get amber turn signals, but too many more important things to do to my Pat first.
