I've owned my 2015 Jeep Patriot for just over a year now... LOVE IT! This past Saturday while on busy road upon acceleration it jerked then RPM'S revved then dropped loss in power and shut off. Absolutely no warning lights , and no check engine light nothing. Started back up went about 7 miles did it again without jerking, started back up did it again less than mile down the road no jerk. Made it home safely thank God. It's now in shop since Monday evening they did diagnostic tests and absolutely no codes being thrown. Telling me they need to keep it till it acts up and then try to catch it on computer. I'm at a major loss people telling me transmission, throttle body, modules or sensors so why can't anything be tested individually? Anyone else have this problem? What did they find?

Hi dianeshoe40,

We are terribly sorry to hear that you had this negative experience. Is your Jeep currently at a certified Jeep dealer? If so, we would like to provide further assistance. Please message us with your VIN and mileage to get started.

Diane, I am curious which transmission you have (CVT or 6-speed auto). FWD or 4x4? Thanks and good luck - hope they figure it out for you.

I own a 2015 Patriot I am starting to have the same problem. Is there a recall on it since it’s a known problem or are we on our own and what’s the cost of getting it fixed.

You can check to see if there's any recalls by using the VIN for your vehicle here:

We had this problem and finally resolved it. Troubleshooting it was such a struggle that we almost lost hope. I felt obligated to join the forum, just to help others.

Summary: The issue/resolution is the crankshaft sensor needs to be replaced. It is a $20 part that isn't the easiest to get to, but my son and I were able to complete the repair ourselves (after researching how to on YouTube).

Long story: We have a 2015 Jeep Patriot Sport. A few weeks ago we began experience the RPMs randomly drop off, and sometimes it would kill the engine. We would have to coast to the side of the road, shut off the engine, open the door (to kill the battery), and then we could typically restart the engine after shutting the door. Our first thought was to replace the spark plugs (which was needed anyways). When that didn't work, the issue progressed enough to finally throw an error code 7e8 engine p0335. Some quick googling led us to replace the fuel pump. When that didn't resolve the issue we continued to search the web. Finally we found something where someone had the same exact behavior, and since the part was only $20 bucks, it was worth a try. This definitely resolved the issue, but the part is not easy to get to. I'm sure that someone with more experience would have a little easier time.

There you go, I'm paying it forward and possibly giving hope to someone about to throw in the 'keys' 😀
