...Thanks for the info. What site did you get the info from?
I run the WJ/WK/XK Jeeps.com sites and have access to advance info on other models as well.

I see no mention of heated mirrors. ...Homelink thing... What is that?
I did not see heated mirrors listed for 2008, and don't seem them on the '09 schedule either, not sure why they are not being offered. HomeLink is the Universal Garage Door Opener feature.

Do we have any idea when the new catalogs will be available for the 2008s??...
Catalogs are usually printed in early August...

Surf Blue Pearl

Sunburst Orange

I see no mention of heated mirrors. :p

I'm interested to see what Surf Blue Pearl is...although I'm still dead-set on Steel Blue.

And the addition of the orange will make some people happy. (It's just not-for-me)

I think that the only thing that changes for what I plan to order (pretty much a manual Limited just about fully loaded, minus the additional speakers, and keeping a basic radio) is the Homelink thing. What is that?

Do we have any idea when the new catalogs will be available for the 2008s?? I'll have to get one to update Hubby. I'll probably be placing my order in Dec 07 or Jan 08...

I am thinking the orange would look like this

It would be cool to have the black out grill, black out rims and the light bar/rack combo on top (if they would build it that way!!!!) That looks really neat!

#9 ·
I am really glad to see that orange is now an option. :D This color is available on a lot of the Patriot's competitors, including the Honda Element and the Suzuki SX4. I read somewhere (I think on Edmunds.com) not long ago that some survey found that color choice can be a deal-breaker for as much as 20% of new car buyers. So I think it is very wise of Chrysler to add this color.

The sunset orange I presume will look identical to the Dodge Calibers currently on the road with the sunset orange paint.

Not long ago I was very disappointed that orange was not an available color for the Patriot, but I decided that I liked the khaki and would go for that. I've started really liking the idea of khaki, and now the orange will be available after all! :icon_rolleyes: So now I have to make a decision!

I also am looking forward to seeing the Surf Blue in real life. I've always thought that Jeeps looked better in lighter colors because it provides a nice contrast to the darkness of the grill slots.

Do we know if there is going to be a change in the base price? I'm wondering about this since they are adding a $950 option (air cond) to the base model.

I'm curious about price also. With everything from the current Driver Convenience Group ($515) coming standard on the Limited, as well as the UConnect ($275), will the the base price of the Limited go up an additional $790?

Also, whats the difference between the current black exterior paint and the new "Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl"?

#10 ·
Both the blue and the orange can be seen on the 2008 cali

Go to the dodge caliber website, then go to build 2008 caliber and you can see that blue.... on a vehicle... let alone a jeep?

I think I will wait for an 08' patriot, we can order them as soon as production starts... I want an orange one... I love the version posted, and plan on doing something very similar...

#11 ·
Was driving next to a Caliber in that color last week and it really looked sharp. Don't think the blacked out grill works Huntysraws. Breaks up the design too much. The black bumpers do work and they add a massiveness to the front. Gives me a feel for how it would look with Rhino bumpers.

Interior Upgrade?

Thanks for the list, Milous. Any word as to whether the interior plastics (texture, quality) will be reworked/upgraded? tia

I have not seen any interior pics yet but I doubt there will be any texture/quality changes this year.

Finalized pricing for many new vehicles is usually announced until closer to the production launch, and in some cases even after launch. This is so that "current" market conditions and costs can be factored in. I am not sure when they are going to announced Patriot pricing other than it will most likely be after June 1st. No idea on how they will be pricing the '08 model, it can be hard to compare pricing with the prior model year as they move options around so much.

There is no Driver Convenience Group for 2008. The new Security and Cargo Convenience Group will be optional on the Sport "E" package and also optional on the Limited.

Also, whats the difference between the current black exterior paint and the new "Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl"?
The "Brilliant Black" has pearl specs in the paint, giving it a very slight "gray" look, although it still very much looks Black. It's kind of hard to descibe, but it's used on a lot of current Chrysler model vehicles, and has been used on Jeep vehicles in the past. If you compare side by side you can really see the difference. Some people like it, some prefer the standard Black.

is the exterior gonna change?
Not that I can tell...

#23 ·
Wait for the '08, you'll be glad you did. It's the end of the first model year, lots of bugs have been squashed going into '08. While there are not a lot of changes that you see for the new model, there are always a lot that you don't see, little improvements here and there that can number in the hundreds...

#24 ·
Looks like the only real change is the autostick being added to the CVT (like the Compass has) other than that, it's as expected with no changes really.

#26 ·
I think it's kind of strange that the CVT would have some preprogramed "gears" setup for the use of the auto-stick but OK.

On the chrysler sale - there will be layoffs and probably some trimming of the model lines but hopefully the new $$ can also effect product design and development. I'd like to see new focus on hihg-MPG vehicles that would help bolster the Jeep (and Chrysler) name amongst the general public.

The hidden hitch is the way to go. Strong enough for anything a Patriot is going to tow. The factory hitch just doesn't make any sense.

Phil, your not drinking coffee in your new Jeep are you?

#30 ·
For the time being, the Patriot will be offered "factory prepaired" to almost tow a trailer around.

The HidenHitch (aftermarket reciever) installs so that you do not have to cut away at the bumper cover. There is a picture on the boards somwhere. On some sites people actually prefer the aftermarket hitches over an OEM piece because they are better quality.

I have a '99 Dodge Dakota in the intense blue pearl coat...
it will be the vehicle replaced by the Patriot...
how close to the intense blue is the surf blue?
The current steel blue is too much like grey for my taste and the marine blue has almost a purple glint to it that reminds me of my first car ('91 Plymouth Acclaim).

Surf Blue Patriot

Here is my attempt to recreate the surf blue on the patriot. I have a feeling that it is a little darker than what it probably will be in life. I did my best (not a graphic artist, autocad is my medium) to replace the original red patriot palette with the blue '08 caliber palette. There are some nice blues available for the new avenger. Too bad all of the colors are not available for all models (across jeep, dodge, and chrysler) in a given year. I do give chrysler credit for having more variety than the typical silver, white and grey that most everyone else has as their "options".

#39 ·
Joseph.... that looks better then I thought... I'll stick with the orange though.

Bob, I think the orange ltd would look really good with the silver bumpers painted black. I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't just make them black in the first place, I think the silver/orange combo would look a bit off, but, I have not seen it yet, so I can't say for sure.

#40 ·
i think the surf blue is a terrible mistake! that is horrendous! Give me a red, white, black, silver, blue metallic, maybe orange model, but what is up with all these weird colors!!!

#41 ·
They are breaking out of the mold.... with the new leadership, I wouldn't be surprised if we see a hybrid jeep car the size of a scion Xa in the near future... they are testing the market... I think it'll be popular... like those bright yellow hummers... they may not make sense, but they are popular...

Many people are expected Cerberus to cut costs, then possibly split up Jeep, Dodge, and Chrysler. Many people are expected Jeep to get sold off. I'm wondering about pricing on the 08 Patriots, as I'm not expecting to trade in my 95 Grand Cherokee until then. I have it spec'd out online at just under 24k, but thats without the UConnect and a few other options that will now be integrated into standard options or packages I've included, which would suck because I don't want my payments much over $300 a month

#45 · (Edited)
I disagree in part. There is very little value to Dodge and Chrysler alone. Too many other manufacturers offer similar car and truck lines to place much value on these brands. Jeep has a unique brand and very strong loyalty. I believe Chrysler will stay independent and with the current brands. There will be a trimming of models but the Challenger will get produced.

Cost cutting - yes. Union contract renegotiations - yes. bankruptcy - maybe.

Thanks Milous! You may not remember, but I covered the 2004 NY Auto Show (WK Grand Cherokee reveal) for a couple of websites, yours being one of them! ;)

Your info is always appreciated!

I'm going to copy the original post to the Knowledge Base.

You bet I remember, those were some fun (and tense!) times, trying to figure out what they were hiding under the blankets, all the speculation and such. Hard to believe that we are approaching the 4th model year of the WK generation, time sure flies for me these days!

#51 ·
I agree about the Dark gray, that would definetly be the color that I would get, it looks so good on the Grand Cherokee

It is highly unlikely that Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep will get split up.
Going by my economics class, I wouldn't be surprised to see jeep sold because it is the most profitable of the three, and the financal company that bought chylser would be able to make back some of their money. Other motor companies would be more willing to buy Jeep by itself and without the extra luggage of chrysler, which is by far the worst of the three. Dodge is not in that bad shape, and I feel could easly improve. I think that they however need to come up with designs that futher seperates their look from that of Chrylser because some of there models closely resemble each other.

The problem with that line of thinking is that Jeep has been a part of Chrysler for so long that there is a lot of "cross pollinating" that has gone on that isn't easy to separate.

The Patriot, Compass, and Caliber are all built on the same assembly line. And with the 08 model, the Liberty will share a lot of the Nitro's sheet metal.

Unless you know the specifics of the corporation's funding and accounting, you really can't tell if Jeep is truly profitable, or if the corporate umbrella subsidizes certain aspects of the Jeep line.
