Welcome! Lot's of helpful info on here. I hope you and your Patriot have a long happy relationship.
  2. CVT vs 6 spd auto vs Manual 5/6 spd

    Engine and Drivetrain
Just to CMA I'm not suggesting you try going through with your plan to put a different tranny into your Patriot. Maybe you really know what you're doing, and if so I'll wish you luck. Its nothing I'd dream of trying. Yeah, I said it sounds simple mechanically. Meaning if you can bolt it on...
  3. CVT vs 6 spd auto vs Manual 5/6 spd

    Engine and Drivetrain
You're talking the 6-spd a/t? Mechanically it seems simple, but I'm afraid the electronics would be a nightmare. Some years ago I asked my Olds dealer about changing the tranny in my Cutlass to a tranny with OD and he said it wasn't possible because of the computer set-up. I'm sure its far...
  4. Top Speed?

    Jeep Patriot General Discussion
I've managed low 30s with my FWD 2008 2.4 CVT. Wifey's FWD 2014 Patriot with the 2.0 5-spd is always over 30MPG and into the mid-30s when driven easy on a long trip. I rarely drive over 70MPH and that rarely, but fuel economy does indeed drop at that speed.

Thank you for your service to our country! For those actively serving, may God keep you safe.
  6. Lifter noise cold.

    Engine and Drivetrain
I don't know why yours started clicking at 75,000 -- both of our Patriots have had noisy lifters since new. Hardly noticeable on a warm sunny day, but in winter 30 seconds is typical/normal, sometimes even a little longer. My '08 had triple your miles and never an engine problem. Our 2014...
  7. 2015 Jeep Patriot surging at just over 60k miles

    Newbie Check-In
Fuel injector treatment is probably out of a can. You can buy the same stuff at the auto parts store. Plugs are only 30,000 mile parts in Patriots. Many of us are used to 100,000 mile plugs these days so plugs are not always the first thing to come to mind. Glad your Patriot is running good...
  8. Top Speed?

    Jeep Patriot General Discussion
My Garmin says 174MPH!!! But in reality probably half that. Did you ever check the maximum speed on your Garmin? My Wife is a very conservative driver and is the primary driver of our 2014 Patriot and that shows a similarly high speed -- I'm guessing in the 160s.. Not sure how these...
  9. CVT vs 6 spd auto vs Manual 5/6 spd

    Engine and Drivetrain
Welcome! Indeed, its time to give your Patriot some service. Fortunately these are pretty easy to work on, at least by contemporary standards.
  10. CVT vs 6 spd auto vs Manual 5/6 spd

    Engine and Drivetrain
The concept of the CVT is so simple I expect its only a matter of time before someone perfects it. Honda has their own CVT and while I've done no research I haven't heard of any problems. In my previous post I mentioned that I have a ZF 9-speed in my Compass. I see that Honda and Acura are...
  11. CVT vs 6 spd auto vs Manual 5/6 spd

    Engine and Drivetrain
I've had two CVTs: The first failed at 110,000 miles (bearing). The second went 170,000 miles (belt slipping). So that makes a total of about 275,000 miles. Before you think I'm saying CVTs are junk, consider that I've had four conventional automatics give me trouble in the 50-60,000 mile...

  15. Newly departed FD II Patriot

    Newbie Check-In
Welcome! Sad to hear of your Patriot's demise. However, glad it protected you to its dying day. I looked seriously at a leftover Patriot before purchasing a 2018 Compass. The deals on the new ones made them too good to pass up. Sadly, my 2019 Compass was, like yours, totaled -- mostly due...
  16. CYT transmission failure

    Engine and Drivetrain
Good catch. All Antonio747 may need is to change the fluid and filters.
  17. New jeep from AL

    Newbie Check-In
Welcome RPM289! Unfortunately mr_et2 is right. These modern engines are already maxed out and the computer controls will compensate for most performance mods. However, since these gizmos will respond to how they're driven, you might try resetting the ECM then driving for the performance you...
  18. JeepPatriot.com gas mileage tips

    Jeep Patriot General Discussion
Those are nice numbers. I think you'll get even better fuel economy if you keep it under 60MPH. Wifey drives our Patriot on mostly rural state highways on her 80 mile round trip commute traveling about 45MPH. Her FWD is getting a consistent 33MPG with the 2.0 5-spd. My FWD 2.4 CVT could get...
  19. Transmission Troubles

    Engine and Drivetrain
A repair is a lot cheaper than a replacement. If the repair isn't the remedy then its time for the big bucks, but I'd start with the cheap option first.
