" GASCAP" ??

My dashboard info center gave me a "GASCAP" alert message!

Why do I think that warning/alert has nothing to do with a loose or missing gascap (I got out three time to tighten or remove and replace securely and the light didn't go out)!

Anyone have any input on this alert ?

Thank you

If it don’t go off after a few starts then you need a new cap.

Thank you, I posted this before I searched! (I'll know next time)

Had I searched I would have found my answer(s)!

Apparently there are a few causes for the "GASCAP" alert message!

thanks again

Garage
Gotta tighten the gascap until it clicks. If that's what you do anyway, then the seal on the gascap has eroded and you need a new one.

I had the exact same thing happen this weekend. I checked the cap, took it out, put it back, it clicked all that. Light still comes on. Next time I go in for an oil change I will have them replace the cap. I don't think it will do any harm until then.

Look for rust on the sealing face of the fuel neck. Usually happens on the weld seam that faces the front of the car.
