Question Whining noise

Upon accelerating and slowing, there is a whining noise, somewhat similar to a sewing machine that increases upon accel, and decreases upon decel. Nothing when in park. Any suggestions?? 07 4X2. Sound seems to be coming from under driver's seat.

This seems to be due to the transmission if my reading of previous posts is correct.

The only whining I get is "You are driving too fast" and "I want to go to the mall" and "Why are you looking at me that way".

It goes away when I'm in the bar.

It is a CVT, definately not a grinding noise. it is a whine that increases in "frequency" as Jeep is accelerating and decelerating. That's the best I can describe it as. Could this possibly be low CVT fluid causing this? I haven't checked the level yet, as it's been a bit too cold to pull the air box apart to see. Thanks in advance.

On a 4x2 model it would have to be coming from the CVT. From reading other posts it's not a good sign. How many miles?

I'm around 3000 km from end of powertrain warranty, guess I should visit the "friendly" dealer and hope for the best

I would have them document the problem and I would also bring the vehicle in two more times that way you have some evidence that the problem was realistic and that three previous attempts failed to repair the problem. That way when it does finally break, more than likely after the warranty, you can try to make Jeep pay for the repair.

I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy, it started around 50,000 on my 08 sport, around that same time I put in ngk plat plugs in and put in and then took out a k&n COI, which sounded mad retarded with the stock muf. But I completely understand what you are saying and it's hard as hell to explain it to people. I think it sounds like an electronic wire ground issue, I have subs, aftermarket hands free device, and the outlet and that's the best way to explain it, it's like when you don't ground a new head unit correctly. wd7m out

Yep!

My '07 Patriot (with CVT) just started doing this exact same thing a few days ago. I dropped it off last night at the dealer. (They gave me the whole line, at first, about "It could be any number of things... including a bad wheel bearing. We'll have to see.) Got a call this morning. Bad CVT transmission and needs a replacement.
