How often do you change your oil?

My warning comes on every 2,500 miles!! Ideally, I would like it to warn me every 6,000 or so miles. I am tired of going to the dealership then wait, wait and wait! I have free coupons for the first 12 oil changes but I cannot deal with the waiting at the dealership.

I change my oil every 5000km (3000 mi). This matches with schedule "B" in the owners and service manuals.

You should use schedule "B" if you fall into one of the categories below (most of us do):
  • Day or night temperatures are below 0 C (32 F)
  • Stop and go driving
  • Extensive engine idling
  • Driving in dusty conditions
  • Short trips of less than 16 km (10 miles)
  • More than 50% of your driving is at sustained high speeds during hot weather, above 32 C (90 F)
  • Trailer towing
  • Taxi, police, or delivery service (commercial service)
  • Off-road or desert operation
  • Heavy loading

Note: If you change your own oil or receive the change oil notification you can reset it. To reset the oil change indicator system (after performing the scheduled maintenance) refer to the following procedure:
  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (Do not start the engine).
  2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly three times within 10 seconds.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF/LOCK position.

If the indicator message illuminates when you start the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. If necessary repeat this procedure.

The change oil light comes according to your driving habits as detected by the PCM.
