CVT fluid change
From my dealer i received a coupon book for Jeep services..stating that fluid change is to be performed during the 30,000 service..*CVT extra*
why would the CVT fluid change be any different from any other? |

What does your manual say?

Fluid shoud be checked/changed at 60.000 miles with extreme use or 120.000 miles with normal use. With gentle use it will probably last for the life of the vehicle.

I asked my dealership a short time ago how much it would cost to change the CVT fluid. He said it would be about $500CDN because the fluid costs something like $50-$100 per litre and the transmission holds about 5 litres.
He told me the exact cost but I can't remember for sure at this time. He also said it is a lifetime fluid but I don't believe in those. |

$500cdn!? Sheesh, you can find CVT+4 for about $9 a quart off the internet and the pan gasket and filter for another $20 or $30 and do it yourself. Just need to measure what came out and put that much back, then take to the dealer to top-off (since we don't get a dipstick).

I've been debating when to have the fluid changed on my vehicle. I'm pretty easy on it, so I'm planning on changing it around 90 or 100k.

My dealer suggested a transmission fluid change at 30K. I declined, reminding them it was a CVT, and he agreed that 60K was the "severe duty" interval.
I expect their computers are set up for 30K reminders for manuals and traditional automatics, and they just spit out the reminder, even if you have a CVT. |

the manual does say 60,000 miles for the CVT fluid change..but, the dealer
recommends it at 30,000..that s not the question though.. its *why* do they say it ll cost more to change the fluid in a CVT vs. a regular auto.? ..is the answer really that the fluid is more expensive or is there more to changing the fluid that im not aware of? |

Because the fluid cost much more than traditional ATF. I have seen CVT+4 fluid running aroung $20-$25 per quart and a fluid change will require around 7 to 8 quarts.

i just found this little tid-bit on Moparmagazine.com regarding the
cvt.. One critical difference between the two is the fluid. CVT automatic transmission fluid is unlike any other ATF. To emphasize the difference, a green color is used to identify it. Mopar® CVTF+4® has unique friction characteristics and using any other ATF will damage the transaxle. |

..HOLY COW MOW ..that mean $150 just for the fluid..not to mention that by now you d need to service the transfer case s as well..![]() and i don t think this is something i d let my neighborhood Speedy do..yet, the mechanic s wife has a Patriot and maybe he can do the job..but, that fluid pricing is just outragous.. CVTF Fluid, $9.00 a quart, made for Jatco (the makers of our CVT's). Our transmissions have the same requirements as the Nissan Extronic CVT M6 CVT Fluid NS-2
http://www.advancespeedshop.com/eneo...vt-p-4849.html Also, Redline makes a CVT fluid now: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=128&pcid=9 and Redline usually makes excellent fluids.
