Us East Coast folks are planning a light trail ride/meet & greet for the upcoming long weekend (MLK Day on Monday). Member dixiedawg has done a lot of the grunt work on this one for us and I appreciate it. Plans are as follows but subject to change:

When:
Saturday January 16th and Sunday January 17th, meeting around 2pm

Where:
Meeting @
Fezz's diner
9 Ice Mine Road
Coudersport, PA 16915

What:

Meet & Greet
Light trail riding
Food and Beverages?
Other ideas?

A Caravan will be leaving the Philadelphia area around 8-9am and planning to meet somewhere in the vicinity of Plymouth Meeting.
PM me if you'd like to plan to meet up and we can swap phone numbers.

Are people staying over somewhere? If so, what's the plan? Kinda cold and snowy to just camp

It would be about a 4 hour drive for me, but I would probably be up for it if it is a 2 day event (I have to work on monday )

There are several places to stay, and yes folks are staying over. If we do this again in better weather, there are a lot of places to camp. Cherry Springs State Park is one that's close. Cherry Springs is a designated Dark Skies Park, and there are a lot of astronomers who go there for the dark skies. They also hold other events at the park, like the Lumbermens Festival, where they have lumberjack competetions.

I know someone said they were going to stay at the Mill Stream Inn. I don;t know anyone who has stayed there though, so can;t say one way or the other how good they are. I'm not sure if they have food or not either.

Mill Stream Inn

Coudersport, PA 16915
Phone: 814-274-9900
Fax: 814-274-9900
Website: http://www.millstreaminn.com
E-Mail: admin@millstreaminn.com

I have had family stay at the Sweden Valley Motel though and they liked it, They have sort of like cabins, and some, if not all, have little kitchens. I like that as I'd rather have at least coffee while comfy before I have to dress.

Sweden Valley Cabins

Coudersport, PA 16915
Phone: (814) 274-8770
Website: http://www.vrbo.com/219799

There's also the Lauralwood Inn and Steakhouse. A lot of snowmobilers stay there.

Coudersport, PA 16915
Phone: 814-274-9220

I've heard good things about this bed and breakfast from folks who go to Cherry Springs for the star viewing.

Phone: 814-274-7419

The Lindy also has cabins.

Phone: 814-274-0327

From what I remember the Sweden Valley has pretty reasonable prices, and I think the Lindy does as well.

If there's anything else I can do, or questions I can answer, just let me know.

Oh here's a link to a site where you can look around for attaractions, places to stay, places to eat, etc.

Fezz's Diner is about 4 miles east of Coudersport PA, just a reference for you.

Here's the link:

Oh, that's a 4.5 hour drive for me (Waterloo, ON)... Unfortunately I can't make it.
In the spring/summer perhaps, I could make it a camping trip.

Alright, I will probably look this weekend to see if any of my friends want to spend a weekend in the middle of nowhere, and will probably book a room at one of those places. Anyone else staying at one of those places? Anyone wanna get a group of people and split a large cabin or something?

It looks like my friend from West Chester might be able to come. I might meet him in State College or just meet him up there, but we will try to make a good weekend out of it: arrive friday night at a cabin, drink some beers, eat some food, and play some cards, etc., meet up on saturday for some food, fun, and maybe some trail riding if we find any snow to play in, and maybe meet up again sunday before heading home. Let me know if anyone else wants to join us. BYOB and must be 21+ in the cabin if you are interested!

I'll be getting there early, maybe around 10:00 or so. Looks like Gaze might be later, so if anyone is getting there early and want to meet before those guys get there, let me know. I can shoot you my cell number via PM.

This is working out well, we for sure need to talk about a summer meet there as well. Better weather, and more to do in the summer. Canoe or bike the Grand Canyon, ride the Tioga central railway, etc.

If you do winter sports, bring your stuff. Cross country skiing anywhere, snowmobile trail runs through my place, and the Denton Hill ski area is a couple miles away.

Dxiedawg, we will be there Friday night through Sunday. Any recommendations on where to eat Friday night (though we may bring food and cook for ourselves)? Also, any recommendations for any good photography spots (old/interesting architecture, scenic views, etc)?

Also, any thoughts between Sweeden Valley and Lindy? Will be booking later today...

And so far the only thing set in stone is the meeting at the diner at 2:00pm on Saturday, with you getting their early if anyone wants to meet up. Anything else in the works: trails, etc?

Thanks again for setting this up!

The Lindy Cottages are closed this coming weekend for maintenance. Waiting to hear back from Sweden Valley to see if their cabin with the kitchen is available. Otherwise, we may just find a cheaper hotel...

Tomorrow I'll be making my calls for motel too. I was thinking sweden valley inn myself or Laurelwood Inn. Both seem to be reasonably priced.

The person from Sweden Valley Inn called last night. She will be out of the office today and tomorrow as well for most of the day, but you can reserve a place by just giving your name and approximate check in time, etc. right on the answering machine.

Todde, from talking to the lady at Sweden Valley, I would recommend dealing with her. Very nice person. My friend and I booked Cabin #1, so if you do stay there, expect to be invited over for some beer and cards Saturday night. The same goes for everyone else!
