HOW TO: remove center bezel and radio on 09 Patriot (DIY!)

All the instructions I've seen are for the 08s and earlier. The 09 has a different center console.

Tools needed: 1) small flat blade 2) bicycle tire spoons (or something similar) 3) phillips head screwdriver

Step 1) Right tool for the right job.

Step 2)
Make sure you cover the shift knob as not to damage the bezel.

Step 3)
Turn the knobs all the way to the right so the there will be slack in the red and green guide cables.

Step 4)
Use a small flat blade to pry open the bezel just enough so you can slip in the tire spoon. The spoon is wide and made out of a softer material so it won't damage the bezel.

Here are the location of the clip points so you'll know where to pry:

Step 5)
Bezel removed. You'll notice the static cling protection film I have to keep scratches and finger prints from the display screen. Easy cleaning too. The "black" 3M vinyl square on top of the bezel is there for my GPS suction cup to stick to.

Step 6)
You'll see two cables that will need to be unhooked to get the bezel completely out of the way.

Use the small flat screwdriver to push in the tabs to remove both the red and green cable holders.

Step 7)
Simply remove the 4 phillips screw and pull out the radio

I did this exercise to see if my REN MyGIG has plugs for the factory rear camera.

can you repost this into the knowledge base submission forum? That'll keep it at the top where it belongs.

I tried, but I didn't have sufficient privilege? Anyone know how?

you have to submit it. You can't put it directly into the knowledge base.

I guess eventually the mods will move the good threads into the knowledge base.

So after all that work does the radio support the back up camera? I work at the Brampton Assembly plant and we use Fibre sticks for pulling dashboards apart....nice workaround with the spoke tool!

Center dash

Thanks a lot for the photos, it made the job much easier. I r&r'd the radio, reinstalled the stock one. ( The shop wanted $50 to r&r the radios.) The only thing I would add, is when removing the red and green cables from the arms be aware the little lever has a spring loaded cam that holds the eye of the cable on. This cam must be depressed enough to get the eye over it and then off. (I used needle nosed pliers for that and duckbills to hold the cable end) As with all things plastic, slow and cautious is best. Overall it was easy. I used a tool set I purchased from Summit Racing to pry the dash off. They are made of nylon and includes levers and pry bars (4total). Cost 19.95+shipping. I was back on the air in an hour.

Thanks for the write up PorscheTT. Removing the radio housing is a breeze compared to the 07/08 models. Do you also happen to know how to remove the gear selector bezel/housing for the 09/10 models?

Never mind, figured it out.
