It looks good so far. Is that the right side rear behind the little storage area??

I am sure that there will be others that would like a step by step directions on how you did this (along with dimensions of the box). If you put a good "how to" together it could be added to The Knowledge Base. Also, pics of the completed look :)

Great Job!!

Ok I'll go measure it out and make up some blue prints, and yes it is on the right side but I took out that storage area and made the box to fit in there. I probably won't have time to finish off the front until this weekend, but I'll post pics as soon as I do.

Thanks, Yeah it is in the same spot that's where I got the idea. I called to see how much to get the speaker grille for the ba system and they told me that you have to get the whole quarter panel for like $200ish. I figured I could make something just as good for way less money!

Easy home made cover

What I would do for a cover is get a sheet of plastic or wood the depth of the lip. Use paper to make a nice template. Cut it to shape of the hole then check for fit. Measure in a few inches and cut out the center. Or even just cut out a hole in where the speaker is. Get some speaker felt and spray glue and cover the board or plastic. Then attatch it with small screws from the backside. Should look real nice and cost next to nothing. Just my two cents worth.

Thanks for the idea! Thats kinda what I have in mind, except for the hole where the speaker is use some chicken wire and then some speaker felt over the chicken wire just so it has some add protection. Just incase something were to hit it.

Alright guys here's the dimensions, sorry it took awhile I had to take off the panel last night to measure the box. I used 5/8" particle board to make the box cuz 3/4 would of been to thick and would of made the box to small.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Haha thanks!

The box really wasn't that bad to build it was just trying to figure out what size and where to angle it was the worst part of it. I ended up using a piece of cardboard to mock it up, then just traced the cardboard on the wood.

Let me know how it goes!

Oh and just a tip I painted the box black that way you don't see it depending of the cover I use.

Actually to secure it I just screwed it to the body. There's plenty of room for a screw before you go through the outer panel I think about 5 or 6 inches. I just used three 1 1/2" screws. Just make sure to screw it up before you put the sub in. It fits snug but it would rattle if you didn't secure it. You could also use liquid nail to secure it if you have time for it to dry and you don't want to put a screw in.

I used a JBL GTO804. It's not a shallow mount sub but it sounds good. The box has enough cubic inches where you don't have to use a shallow sub, but it probably wouldn't hurt if you did.

Hey glad to help!

Here's a pic of my sub next to a rockford.

Thanks for the tip, I did put some dynomat inbetween the box and the metal and it doesn't rattle at all.

Alright guys here's the finished cover for the sub!

Thanks man that's what I was going for. I wanted to keep it as clean looking as possible. I was gonna cut out a circle shape in that plastic piece for the sub but I snapped it in the way it was and it still sound awesome and doesn't rattle at all! It only cost me $8 for the grill and the fabric! Then just had my girlfriend stich the fabric on the grill.

Thanks Dude I'm glad you like it! Yeah I think you would be able to fit a 10" in there, but if you did I would make sure you used a shallow mount sub. I don't think you would need a 10" or 12" cuz that 8" I got hits really good! It sounds like I have two 10"s in there. The only thing you would have to be carefull of if you did do a 10" is make sure the hole isn't to big for the box and that it's not to close to the edge of the box.

Thanks!

Thanks, it did make it a lot easier to finish off that way. And I like it cuz you can't tell anythings there.

#28 ·
No I just made a sealed box. I figured if it didn't sound good sealed then I could alway port it out. But the sealed box sound awesome!

#31 ·
Yeah you probably could. If you take off the drivers panel you will see there is a lot of wasted space under there.

Well the first thing you have to do is take off the whole side panel. Then you'll see that there are plastic nubs that are kinda melted on the panel that hold the cubby. What I did is cut around the nubs so that I could push them out that way I could re-use them to hold that plastic face plate in. Don't cut the holes to big otherwise it won't be able to snap back in and hold.

I don't have a picture of how I cut them off the panel but here's some after they are off that might help.

Here you can see the nubs are still there. Then you just have to cut the plastic on the cubby so you can slide the face plate off.

This is how you want the face plate to look when your done cutting it free.

You could probably cut the nubs off and just velcro the face plate on to make it easier. But I did it this way so it holds the grill I made and that way it would just snap back in. Let me know if you need any other tips.

They are working on my end.

What did you wire it to? Where did you locate the amp to keep it out of the way and did you incorporate the stock head unit?
I'm not sure what you mean by wire it to? If you mean the amp I just wired it up like a basic amp install. You have a wire from the battery, a ground, a remote, the rca's from the head unit, and then the speaker wires to the sub.

I put the amp by the spare tire under that plastic cover, and built a platform to mount it to.

I have a aftermarket head unit but I wired my brothers into the factory deck. All you need to do is splice into the rear speaker wires to make your rca's.

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone else has tried building this box and if so how did it turn out?
