Need a little help with my front ABS Sensor. Would like know where the inside plug goes to. I can find the hub end, but where does the plug end go inside the vehicle after it goes through the grommet? Has anyone replaced their front ABS Sensor? The left one in particular. What do I have to disassemble inside to get to the plug? The dashboard? The kick panel?

I posted a thread with pictures about replacing the rear ABS Sensor a couple of years ago, but need some help now for the front sensor. Yes, this is my second sensor to fail in 2 years. Don't get me started on what a POS this Jeep has been..... Thank you for any help.

Really? Two days and nobody knows anything about this? I guess I am SOL. Anybody got a link to a repair manual?

from the '09 MK FSM:

05 - Brakes/05 - Brakes, ABS/Electrical/SENSOR, Wheel Speed, Front/Installation
INSTALLATION

CAUTION: Failure to install speed sensor cables properly may result in contact with moving parts or an over extension of cables causing an open circuit. Be sure that cables are installed, routed, and clipped properly.

See first picture
1. Install the wheel speed sensor head (3) into the knuckle (4). Install the mounting screw (2) and tighten it to 12 N·m (106 in. lbs.).
2. Install the routing clip (1) securing the wheel speed sensor cable to the knuckle (4).

See second picture
3. Position the wheel speed sensor routing bracket (2) on the brake flex hose bracket (5) and install the mounting screw (1). Tighten the mounting screw to 18 N·m (13 ft. lbs.).

See third picture
4. Position the wheel speed sensor cable routing clamp (4) on the outside frame rail (6) and install the mounting screw (3). Tighten the mounting screw to 18 N·m (13 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the speed sensor cable routing clip (2) on the outside frame rail (6).
6. Insert the wheel speed sensor cable through the hole in the body (7) and install the grommet (1) in the hole.

See fourth picture
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the wheel speed sensor cable connector (2) to the wiring harness connector (3) on top of the frame rail (1).
9. Perform the Diagnostic Verification Test and clear any faults. (Refer to 05 - Brakes - Standard Procedure)

Thank you fester.
Thank you for the excellent instructions with pics JeepCares. Is the left (driver) side the same?

Well, I got the new sensor on and so far, so good. No idiot lights or random braking.

Part# 05105573AA (left, driver side USA) (2007-??)
Part# 05105572AA (right, passenger side USA) (2007-??)

Will post pics and procedure soon.

OK, finally found time to edit the pics so here you go. One thing to mention is that I did all of this with the wheel in place because I had a frozen lug nut that eventually had to be drilled out at the garage. It would go a lot easier if you take the wheel off.

Photo 1: New sensor, all connectors and brackets are pre-attached which makes it easy to tell where they attach to the vehicle.

Photo 2: The old sensor. It took some prying to get out. I used a small flat head screwdriver under the bolt flange, but be careful not to break it. Just work it out slowly. The sensor showed no visible signs of damage, just dirty.

Photo 3: The cable goes up over the hub. There is a push-in connector there that was a b1tch to get out. It broke off and had to be drilled out. I could have gotten to it better if I could have gotten the wheel off. The bracket to the left only needs one of the bolts removed, just look at your new bracket to see which one.

Photo 4: The same bracket again, then it goes up to another bracket then toward the rear again.

Photo 5: Another push-in clip and then into the engine compartment. To be continued.....

Continued from above.....

Photo 6: The new sensor in place - yahoo!

Photo 7: On to the inside job. Remove your air filter box to get to the connector. It just pulls straight up and is only held in place by those rubber grommets (orange arrows). Remove the big air intake hose first, the other hoses you can just flip the air box over onto your engine cover out of the way.

Photo 8: This is the electrical connector for the sensor. I haven't dealt with this kind of connector before and let me tell you, it was a b1tch to get open. I pushed and pulled and eventually broke the red piece off and tore it apart. The new connector fit in firmly and I don't think it is going anywhere so I left it as is. I suppose you could wrap some electrical tape around it if you were paranoid.

As previously said, this is my second ABS sensor repair in a 4 year old vehicle. IMHO, I don't think these things should be failing at that rate in a relatively new vehicle. Among several other problems (see signature). That's why I won't be buying another Chrysler-Daimler-Fiat-Jeep ever again!

I have had too many issues with my 2009 Patriot also. But, in defense of Jeep, I bought mine used with 108,000 hard driven miles. On the orange clip, it comes off very easy. I pulled my connector loose from the body mount so I could get to it. Simply lift up on the back clip of that orange piece and it will slide forward. It only slides about 1/4 inch. Then, you can pull the connector apart. I used a wire tie to secure it back to the body mount.
