Lift info requested...

So as most of you know I am planning on going up hopefully by the fall via the RRO Lift. My question to y'all is we're pretty limited on flex so is there a way to get more of it? The lift add's 2&1/8" of clearance if I'm not mistaken so IMO that should be that much more the tires can move upwards. If I remove the sway bar(/bars if more than one) would that help?

I was really wondering if one could buy new coils and springs that can extend some more and/or provide a more comfortable ride. I know buying the STU coils wont give me more ride height when paired to the RRO lift but would it help it flex more?

Re: Lift info requested...

RRO with STU could actually would give more height, about another inch or inch and a half over the RRO. The problem is it's too much for the suspension to handle without breaking cv's. To get more flex, I believe you would need taller springs (not stiffer), longer travel shocks, and a sway bar disconnect

^ That's what I couldn't think of! Taller springs. I knew I'd need longer travel shocks and the sway bar disconnect would probably help some right away...but I couldn't figure out what else. How would I go about shopping for the taller springs and longer travel shocks? Is there a way to match a springs stiffness to the OEM ones?

Re: Lift info requested...

I know you can contact a spring works and tell them you want springs that offer the same ride quality but are 2 inches taller than stock. Some spring shops will have a record of OEM spring information, and they can use those specs to make their own. That's how I did it for my Trooper

Jesus it's hard to find Patriot specific info online...just brings me to random websites selling lift kits and stuff. If I could get the RRO lift, taller shocks, and taller springs...would I have to somehow modify the cv's? Have custom ones made that were a little longer or something (idk sheeite about suspension stuff if you couldn't tell...)

You would have to rebuild your whole front suspension and axles... It would be very cost prohibited unless you build it all yourself. It would still be very expensive, but less so.

Damn. And I just kind of realized that this would more than likely void my warranty. Double Damn...

Maybe in 4 or 5 years when its paid off, out of warranty, and you want to get something else, maybe keep it as a project?

Yea that'll probably end up how this goes. Sadly. I've got the Mopar 6 year, 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty I think so I'll be covered for the duration that I will be making payments (6 year loan). I'll be hating myself come MOAB next year though I'm sure of it lolmaybe just removing the sway bar when need be would do enough.

The sway bar removable, or disconnectable would go a long way for flex, a sway bars whole role is to reduce flex...

You should work on paying it off early, that's what we're doing, we'll be done in less than two years.

Good call. I love not having payments trust me, my 2 cars I've owned were payed off a year before they were suppose to be and now this is my first $20k+ vehicle I've ever owned so I would like to pay it off in 4 years rather than 6.

And I figured that. I think FWD had a thread going a few months back about the sway bar disconnect but said it would be too much work to do and it'd be easier to completely take it off.

yeah, but taking off the sway bar on the side of the trail would be a pain... the patriot is not serious enough of an off road vehicle to warrent that. I would sooner put in a locking diff before going through that hassle. that way as long as I have one rear tire on the ground...

(btw, if you have not, and if anybody has not emailed ARB yet about your interest in a locking diff for the patriot, please do so)

Hmmm that would be realy nice wouldn't it...thats another subject I know practically nothing about and I'm assuming would be expensive to purchase, huh? And to get the best use out of it they'd have to make front adn rear lockers for us, am I correct?

*Edit: holy crap dude have you seen how much those run? $900+ on average and in many cases over $1k. And that's just for the actual hub itself you still need to buy the switches, wiring, air compressor tank, probably a nice portable on board air compressor, etc. Damn that'd get pricey!

True... But if you are serious about going off road... After the lift and bigger tires, this is the single biggest thing you can get. You need the air compressor anyways, a tank is small and cheap, and so are switches and lines. The locker to me would be 100% worth the money.

Yea that's all true. Still though that's a ton of money. Plus no one makes them (or not that I could find anyway) so they'd probably charge even more to have one custom made. I doubt ARB would do the research and stuff to make them readily available because the market for them would be so bleak. I wonder if the Caliber had similar differentials and if anyone made locking ones for racing purposes that could work for offroading?

Not gonna lie I've been thinking of places to mount a small air compressor and tank for a while now but think that's gonna wait til I get that spare battery and stuff done in the back that way it can be bolted down and have a steady flow of power without using the vehicles battery for juice.
