Flip Key

I got the itch to order something for the Pat so I purchased this flip key from Ebay.
It only cost me $13 so if it turns out to be crappy no big loss.

Anyone purchase one of these that can comment on their quality?

Hey that looks pretty cool! I would be interested in one so it will take up less space in my pocket.... let us know how you like it!

Yeah that's why I thought I would give it a shot nothing to lose really.

I'm surprised no lady friend of mine has said "Is that a Jeep key in your pocket or are you just happy to see me!!

Once I get it I'll give an update.

Re: Flip Key

I'm on my phone so I just glanced at your link, maybe this is addressed, but the key has a chip in it. How does the flip key handle that? Can you program the flip key?

You disassemble the Jeep key and put the bits in the new flip key housing, including the already cut key

The only thing I can see maybe being an issue is getting used to the fact that the key comes out perpendicular to the case. This means holding the case horizontal to slide the key into the ignition. As it stands now our case is held vertical as the key is entered making it easy to turn the key to start the engine.

jack.allwardt will become famous soon enough
VW has had those "switch-blade" keys for years, and they do take up less space in your pocket.

I'd wonder if the chip could be programmed? I'm sure any "good" hardware store could cut your blank. I might want one of these for my "hide-a-key" box.

Please spacejeep--give us your honest evaluation!

No problem Jack I will do exactly that. Lets keep in mind this thing is only $13 so I'm not expecting BMW quality here.

I just received the flip key and I must say on first impression the quality seems pretty good. I will get it cut and then post some pictures showing the install.

In one of the pics it looks like the flip key housing is as big/bigger than the entire normal key.

Is that accurate or does the pic misrepresent?

That's pretty cool, buy my key has a button for the remote start. Looks like the flip key wouldn't accomodate that feature.

Our key measures 3 5/8" tip to tip and this new case when the key is inside is 3" so overall it is smaller. But the coolness factor is what really counts!!
