Rear Seat Back Protectors
Hey all, I was wondering if anyone knew of any rear seat back protection options for the Pat?
I want to get an allweather tray for my cargo floor, but when I fold the seats down I wanted something that could protect the whole cargo area in that configuration. (ie like subaru does on its seat backs) something like this: http://compare.ebay.com/like/1709219...Types&var=sbar I was thinking of maybe just getting a second husky-type mat and then trimming it to fit the 60/40 split and secruing it with heavy duty velcro or something like that. I would like to be removable. Any ideas or solutions? Thanks! |

Nothing I know of available for that.
I seem to remember someone here made their own though, so you might want to look around.

Brohio,
Here's what another member did with a cheap mat they purchased from Wal*Mart. Scroll down to post 8 to see the pics of it. It looks really nice. http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6301

X2 I use a Walmart black rug cut to size in the back. I don't cover the seat backs, but they make a rug that is pretty big that would probably go the distance.....

Not real pretty, but I use cardboard to cover the back cargo area, and the back seats. It is cheap, and easy to do, and does protect it. It's not the same as a cardboard box though, thinner but stronger. I use the very thick paper that covers a skid of paper used for large printing presses. So I have easy access and can replace as needed, although I have only replaced it once.

That way is more cost efficient but I'm wondering how he keeps it connected to the back of the seat when it's upright. Just glued down or what?

This is just an idea, but I think you could use the hook side of velcro attached to the back of the rug, and it would/should stick to the carpet that is already on the back of the rear seats. I don't know what you would do to make it stick to the back of the headrest though.

My solution is a Wal Mart carpet in the cargo area and a heavy wool blanket for the seats, either the seat cushions if they are up or the seat backs if they are down.
They are called car blankets up here, might be called horse blankets or just cheap, heavy wool blanket...thing must weight 5 pounds. It stays where it is put due to its weight and doubles as a safety thing, real warm if you are wrapped into it.

SUCCESS!!! Ok, so ran up to my favorite store in the world (home depot) and picked up some supplies:
1) Vinyl Runner - 26" x 6' ($13) 2) New box cutter ($2) 3) Industrial strength velcro - 4' ($9.50) Total w/ tax: $26.31 Other stuff I used: -Phillips head screwdriver -paper dealer service mats that I had leftover from yesterday when they installed my crossbars/bug defelctor -pair of scissors Heres what I did (pics below): 1- unroll the vinyl runner (it has ridges running paralell with the seat back so it will help keep stuff in place a bit) 2- trim to 2 rectangles (40split section is 19"x21", 60split section is 30.5"x21) 3- I took the dealer mats out to my Pat and folded the seats down, then traced a vague outline of the cargo hook/trim piece (make sure you mark the top/inside corner that you used to match up with, because it was backwards when I flipped it over onto the vinyl) 4- I cut out the circle of where the hook locations are (i left about 1/2 to 1" of room from the outer edge, because that way it would fit nicely under the trip piece of the cargo hook when installed) 5- trace the outline of the hole cutout onto the back of the vinyl (again, pay close attention to what side of the trace sheet will be relative to the back of the vinyl because its opposite when flipped over and installed) 6- I cut the holes with my box cutter after tracing them onto the vinyl 7- Went out to the Pat, and unscrewed the trim pieces around the cargo hooks (not only does this make it look more 'factory', but helps keep it snug when installed) 8- NOTE: at this point, the two vinyl pieces are still rectangles, and do not reflect the areas when the seat anchor things are, or where the seat back shape changes near the rear wheel wells. The reason I did not trim before placing them is because I wanted to make sure the hoels lined up before making any preemptive cuts. 9- Once the mat holes are aligned with the cargo hook locations, I screwed the trim pieces back on, and tightened all the way (the vinyl is not very thick, to it does not add enough pressure to crack the trim piece...if you use a thicker material you might want to pay attention and be careful with this step) 10- Once snugly screwed in, I used my scissors to trim the edges around the seat anchors and shape the edges to match the seat. 11- i used 4 pieces of velcro to attach the corners of the vinyl to seat back carpet (only needed the hook side of the velco, not the soft fuzzy side because it would attache just fine to the seatback carpet as-is) 12- ENJOY! Total time: 1.5 hours Another note: If you dont have scrap sheets of paper large enough, or any extra dealer mats lying around to trace with, I recommend using leftover wrapping paper from the holidays because it is pretty easy to trace on because its so thin. let me know if you guys have any questions!
