I'm not a supersticious person, but '13 and True Blue is starting to freak me out I bought my Patriot yesterday, and today the MIL indicator and the ESC indicator demons appeared. As well as the auto start malfunctioned - the vehicle stalled after 15 seconds with automatic start. The strange thing is that this all transpired after I filled the tank for the first time. Any words of wisdom, past experiences, advice? The dealer will be called in the morning. It starts fine and stays running on manual start. Though the engine light stays on continuously.

Sounds like you got some bad gas or have condensation in the gas tank. When my xB was new I had some condensation in the tank and it set off the same lights. After the dealer cleared it, they never came back on again

Well that sounds promising! It was hard enough parting with the '96 Cherokee Sport yesterday. Today threw me off. I was thinking possibly a fuel issue, since it started after the fill up. Don't want to discourage any new, or potentially new Jeep family! But I will do a follow-up after the fix so it's out there. I understood that 87 was the standard and recommended to use.

I use 87 in my used '08 Patriot. Have ever since I got it back in March.

EDIT: Oh, and Welcome to the forum!

Yesterday morning everything was clear and it seems to be functioning normally. I'm still having it looked at tomorrow. Otherwise, I'm really liking the vehicle. I commute, and wanted better gas mileage, need a 4WD, and relying on the Jeep reputation.

Good to know, but this was on a full tank. I drive the interstate daily (I-81 in PA), I can't afford to lose power with a tractor/trailer on my tail! Otherwise, I'm really digging the Patriot!

I imagine another possibility, and this was mentioned to me by my mechanic that wrenched on my Cherokee Sport over the years ... He has a Commander - He said that sometimes they have to get up over a 100 miles for the computer to do all of the scans, and if there was a fail on the first cycle, the 2nd cycle may have disengaged the ESC momentarily. Make any sense? I just want everything to go smoothly, like it should. It's an investment, not a gift. Does anyone know if you "have" to take your new vehicle to the same place you purchased from, or can you go to any Jeep dealer?

Thanks! I'm glad I found this site! They cleared the issue today and took it out for a while. I should have written down the code, or asked for a copy of the work sheet. He said it read a loss of power somewhere. I bought it with 18mi on it, and I know they had it probably sitting for a while. (inspection sticker was from August) I'm sure most are partial to the slate gray interior, as was I at first. This has the beige, slate gray, and the headliner is very light. Penn State colors ; ) And the True Blue Pearl in certain light reminds me of Marine blue. Love the dark navy though. Question, for further down the road. Sunroof? Or let it alone to avoid issues? And is there a catalog out there I can subscribe to get gear for the '13? I talked to the parts guy today and he said that there is absolutley no difference from the '12, only their order codes will change for the '13.
