Best Way To Hand Wash The Roof
I will be hand washing my new Patriot and am looking for tips on the best way to wash the roof. There's only so much you reach by hand. I will be using a microfiber wash sponge type thing on the rest of the Jeep. I was wondering if there is such a thing attached to a handle to make reaching the center part of the roof easier. I have a bad back and I need to do this without hurting myself.

I use an extendable aluminum handle with a window brush attached.
Its like a scrub brush but way softer. You can buy such brushes in the automotive section but the exact same brush with different packaging is sold as a window washing brush for way less money. This brush is not used for anything else, not even my windows. Brushes are notorious for swirling/scratching your finish as they can trap and hold grit. I don't even go under the rockers with it, that is rag in hand territory. so I use it exclusive on my vehicles only after i have hosed off any loose dirt, make lots of suds or foam when I'm filling my soapy bucket, use only a quality auto wash, rinse the hell out of the brush often in use and always before putting it away... Then it cycles down to become my house window brush and I buy a new one. The old window brush becomes the wheel brush and so on. Maybe a little anal but...I enjoy washing my vehicles and watching the comings and goings on the street...watching the young moms walk their dogs and kids...you know, the usual stuff.

I use a short "pantry ladder"... It has three steps. Easy to manuver. A great help when drying.
![]() Check out the two bucket wash method if you want to keep the swirls away. ![]() Have fun!

I open the doors and step on the door sills,
If that's not an option try wrapping the end of a broom or similar with a towel, I have made a hole in the center of the towel, ran it down the handle, wrapped it around the broom, tends to stay on better that way. |

Before I had my nerf bars installed, I did what Terasec mentioned stepping on the door sills. I also would step on the rear wheel holding on to the side rails.

All you steppers...can you wash your roof while holding your beer in one hand?

I just step on the rear wheel holding on to the side rails. I don't know how unsafe that might look, but it's working ok for me for the last couple years

Patriot is not that high, but my truck is very tough to wash the roof and the roof of the cap. I try to park beside a wall I can stand on, and do one side at a time for the truck.
I've always said the wand wash places are missing the boat, they should have an outside wash bay with a wall you can stand on, on both sides, for folks with trucks, lifted vehicles, short people, etc.

Same as 'Bruno' for me. I can reach my Jeep top, but do this for our minivan.

I'm 54 with a bad back. No climbing for me. I found a telescoping plastic stick deal with a replaceable microfiber wash pad at a local auto parts store. Just was I was looking for.

I use a long wand about 3 ft. with a brush on the end hooked up to a lawn hose the brush is soft enough and when the water flows any old dirt will be flushed away.
