Here's the Grand...

and the Cherokee...

am I the only one who sees a resemblance? The grand was met with what feels like overall positive feed back.

I see no great advantage having the head lights that low down on top of the bumper !!. I can see thosr lenses getting smashed off road or on road by flying gravell/rocks .

The Dodge Caliber was a design failure , so was the 1st & 2nd gen Compass. The 3rd gen Liberty ( Cherokee In UK & export markets ) suffered the same fate . The Jeep Commander / Dodge Nitro were just plain ugly ...!! Not too sure what FIAT are trying to achieve ??

How low are those headlights? I'm pretty sure several states have a minimum headlight height of something like 24 inches. They wouldn't design a vehicle that can't be sold in all 50 states. In the UK the minimum height is something like 20 inches.

Let's assume that the tires on the new Cherokee and the Liberty are the same size. I feel that's a safe guess, if anything the tires might be bigger. But the Liberty uses 235/70-16s. (29 inches tall) The headlights of the Cherokee are about at the top of the tire, so about 27 to 28 inches off the ground. The Patriot's headlights start right about the top of its 215/60-17's, so it has lights that are also 27 to 28 inches off the ground.

Really, I'm not sure if the stylists were aiming the new Cherokee at the existing Patriot buyers. It just doesn't look very similar. The transition from the old Cherokee to the Patriot was pretty straightforward. More likely they're now looking for GC buyers who will look at this as a lower-priced alternative. I'll bet dollars to donuts that's why the Compass borrowed the front end styling cues from the GC.

For me, the Patriot is a road-friendly Wrangler. Good enough in the snow; hardly ever goes off-road. The new Cherokee is a cheap Grand Cherokee. Can you see one of these slogging through a swamp? No, but you'll find plenty of Patriots doing exactly that.

Whoever designed the new Cherokee wasn't interested in pleasing us -- they had other fish to fry.

The middle lights are headlights, he's right.

Looks a hell of a lot like the 2013 Escape...On the wrangler site someone posted a pic of the 2015 Wrangler (potentially) and it is equally as upsetting if not more so...

Yah....not fond of that at all. The grille wrapped over the hood and the lights are putrid.

I could handle the grille though, if the lights were better.

Luckily I intend to keep our pat for a long time.....next vehicle replacement will be my wife's, in 2-4 years and it won't be this.

Capable it may be, but the Pontiac Aztek was also capable and versatile....

You know the front almost reminds me of the little Isuzu that existed many years ago.

Agreed Ignatz..marketers are smart people...they don't intend to please us rugged style folks with this...even that though..it is not nearly as attactrive as the GC.

If that's really the new Cherokee, then I predict more Patriot sales. It looks more like the Compass to me.

You know who would like it, though? The auto reviewers! It looks so much like the Japanese models that they'll probably forget it was made in USA and say all kind of good things about it.

Looking at the pictures, I think I'm kind of glad that I already own a Patriot.
