Yes, it will run AWD if sensors feel wheel slip. The "off road" should never light up for you, that lights when shifted into L off road gear, which yours does not have.
Turning the ESP off when off road helps too.

I think when I have 4x4 engaged/locked that "Offroad" light comes on.

Really? Odd, when I lock 4x4 the 4x4 light comes on, and the off road only when I shift into L off road.

Ah that's it. I missread your last post. You are right. Maybe on the MK platform they made one version of HUD's (blanking on proper name for them) for the 4x4's and on the FDII models have that light wired to come on when 'L' is engaged but on the others it's just there. Cheaper to manufacture two HUD's rather than 3 (2wd, FDI, and FDII).

Indeed. On a lighter note, I just discovered my flashlight, on accident, by bashing my head into it and having it fall.

..saw the light thingy in a video. Salespeople are DUMB. Any way our 4wd is somewhat like Subarus. The back tires will kick in if traction control senses a slip. Probabl a good design this way to save on gas. I don't think the rear end in the Patriot is tough enough for trail riding all the time. It's a light transfer case. So are a lot of these crossovers. |

I too just got a 2012 black Patriot. mine is a 4x4 sport 2.4L with steel 16" wheels.
I've already been to the store looking at what is available in more aggressive looking tires.... I just need to wear out the original tires first! I'm having fun with mine so far going on week 2 and still really like it. |

yep, welcome noobs. I've had my 2010 for 3 years, 40k miles and only had a little trouble with the tranny(due to bumpy roads back home) and a tiny leak in the liftgate that shows up during/after heavy rain. Nothing major with that though, it just leaves a trickle of water down the back window
