Dealer flashed my CVT today

While at the dealer today having things worked on( re: suspension check and adjust speedo for new tires )they did the CVT flash that has been out for a while to improve shift performance. At 1st I was actually kind of upset they did it as I had read from others that it has hurt their MPG a bit. I had told them before not to do it but the new guy with good intentions did it today. However, after driving the vehicle now I am all for it. Makes a big difference(IMO) in how the CVT performs. It also seems much quieter? less ""buzzy". Hopefully the MPG doesn't go down as my MPG #'s have been stellar so far.

No difference in MPGs for us after the update. Made a world of difference with the CVT performance.

After my flash I lost 1 mpg, paper calculated.
But after a while it came back and more.

I'm going to have to get another cycle of coming out of winter and into summer to see if the bump was due to that or not.

Anyway, had the negative cable off a couple of times for various reasons, drove, etc and it seemed to all level out.

I know what you are saying about the drive-ability tho...everything is tweaked a bit from throttle tip in to noise to rpm at cruising...seems to stay at 2,000 when cruising regardless of actual speed. Unless you are over that 60-65 mph sweet spot.

I do not think they have touched mine and it's a 2009 - any thoughts out there?

My '08 CVT failed a couple weeks ago at 110,000 miles and was replaced under lifetime warranty. Can I presume my new tranny was set to whatever the new specs are? Honestly I didn't notice a difference, but I'll try to pay attention.

The flash is only supposed to be done if the customer complains about the shifting. Some dealers like mine will check for flashes available and do them anwyay which is how mine got done. Other dealers are like mine BUT they just do them and never tell the customer it was done so some members w/ 2011 and earlier models may have already had it done and just not know it.

I had mine done right after I bought it. (with 27K miles on it). Dealer asked if I was having problems and I just said "No, I like to be up to date." So, they did it. Did seem to make it a bit quieter.

Not necessarily, as the CVT itself is not flashed, but the ECU. and if they were just dropping in a new part, it wouldn't need new software as its the same part. I would ask the dealer if they updated the software while it was in for work.

Had mine flashed last night after owning it for a few months. Bought it with 28k miles, now has 30k. Felt a little sluggish at times so fingers crossed that this helps. Not expecting huge improvements but slight would be nice.

Btw, for those interested I just walked in and said it seemed to be shifting funny. They looked up my car in the system and then said they would perform the flash to see if it improves. Took less than 30 minutes in and out.
