If I read the review the right way the 6 speed automatic is not available with FDII which instead retains the CVT.

Since I like my Patriot the way it looks, no news is good news.
Only real news here is that the CVT is gone. Frankly I rather like the CVT. Mine blew prematurely, but Chrysler/Jeep made good on it. I wonder how the repair record on the 6 speed compares to the CVT. Still can't figure why they limited it to only 6 speeds. If 6 is better than 5, then 7, 8, or 9 should be even better. Maybe 15 or 20. Or maybe an infinite number . . . Oh, that would be the CVT . . . better to stick with a mere 6 speeds. Remember those old fashioned cars with 4 speeds? Isn't technology wonderful? |

The CVT is still alive just in the FDII packaged vehicles.

I didnt see a difference in the guages and I did notice the new seats. I hope they offer that nice leather in it (looks like the New Saddle leather that I like). The shifter console looked the same as well. I'll take another gander...

I see those different in Compass. The Patriot's interior looks the same to me other than front leather seats.

When I was in high school we had a 1950 DeSoto with a 2 speed automatic called Fluid Drive and it actually had a clutch pedal like a stick shift and you could pop the clutch and lay a patch of rubber on the pavement, pretty cool at the time.

I had a '60 ford Falcon with a "Three-on-the-tree" 3 spd manual. It took the first 2 gears to get up to 30, and the rest of the day to get up to 60.
![]() My first new car was a '77 Volare with, believe it or not, three on the floor. I suspect it was designed as a 4 speed without 3rd gear. Two low ratios and one very high ratio to provide fuel economy. Not quite as slow as the Falcon, but no racing car. The 4 speed would have been perfect. (I was on a budget -- as it was it cost $96/mo which was about a week's pay). |

I remember that Fluid Drive had a tiptoe type of shift when you took your foot off the gas pedal it would very slowly shift up to the next higher gear. I remember that if you pushed in the clutch and popped it out real fast it would shift much faster but I don't remember if the column shift lever was in "L" or Drive.

If today's showing was like Ground Hog's Day, the groundhog would see it's shadow and we would have 6 more weeks of waiting.
...also, why does Chrysler have a love affair with the Compass? I know the pricepoint is 2 grand more than Patriot. Maybe they make more money with Compass sales. All I see is Compasses in the lots but no Patriots. But the Patriot will live on. I still feel the Patriot assembly equipment will be shipped to China eventually. The Compass is sold there but not the Patriot. But Australia loves the Pat and China could easily send Pats over there and elsewhere. Pretty sure this Patriot will be my first and last Jeep. Hope it works well 'cuz lifetime tranny warranty means no worries there. Hope to have this for many many years. ...plus one thing I forget to mention. The Patriot is more of a CUV than an SUV. The Pat drives and handles well on pavement, real smooth. It has SUV characteristics but 99% of driving by owners keeps this vehicle on pavement. The other 1% is for fun time. I almost hit a trail today coming home from Marquette. Had to go to Escanaba but stayed on the secondaries. The terciaries will be coming someday. ^ Jeep is not stupid enough to ship anything in from China I'm telling you that right now. I'm surprised that they aren't going to manufacture the new diesel GC's here in the US tbh. And they like the Compass because with every redesign it becomes more and more like a shorter GC........they love it and the people who want a GC for it's looks but can't afford it's hefty price tag will almost always settle for a Compass. And most of those buyers don't use them for offroad use anyway so the Compass is really the money-wise way to go anyways.
