I was just pondering how its kind of funny that the destination charge on a car coming from the states, and a car coming from Japan have similar destination charges.

I guess the big 3 see this as a liberty that they get to charge the same as the rest of the market, sooo. padding much.? lol

It seems to me that the destination charge has something to do with the Teamster Union contract with the truck carriers. Maybe someone else can clarify/add to this explanation.

How come?...VW has to ship a Rabbit from Germany and the destination charges are less than a Jeep from Illinois?

i guess they just keep the dest charge around industry standard that way they can keep the msrp lower in comparison, since they always advertise msrp before dest. its better marketing to have say 19500 base plus 1100 dest than say 20000 base and 600 dest,

I am stationed in Germany and they are charging me approximately $700 to ship my Patriot but I am sure they are cutting a deal for mass transit or something. Because the last time I was stationed here it cost me $1200 to ship one of my cars back to the states from Germany and from what I understand that is the going commercial rate still today.
