: The Limited's Silver Bumper

I had a chance to look at a real live Patriot Limited (Khaki) on my local dealer's lot and noticed that the silver/faux chrome bumper thing appeared to be an add-on. This is contrary to what I've read on another board...the folks there thought the bumper was just painted silver. My question is, have any Limited owners out there been able to determine if the silver bit can be removed from the bumper? If I'm correct and it's just an add-on, I imagine that it must be seriously glued down and be nearly impossible to remove without damaging the bumper. The same dealer evidentially sold the Limited, and now has 2 loaded Sport models (black and white) on the lot. Maybe it's the colors themselves, but I much prefer the look of the body-colored bumper.

I get the impression that Jeep will absolutely not make a Limited model without the silver bumper; maybe it's possible to ask the dealer to remove it as a condition of the purchase?

Although I like leather seats I ended up sacrificing them and getting the sport model only because I couldn't stand the look of the flashy silver bumper. If you have any luck with that I would love to hear about it!

I don't think it is removable without damage, at least from what I have read. Also, I just picked up a Patriot Limited in Silver yesterday. I don't really even notice it since the rest of the vehicle is also Silver. However, I am not sure I would like it as much on another color.

Thanks for the response, guys.

tristavia - I think we're two sides of the same coin...I would prefer the YESEssentials fabric seats, but absolutely need a sunroof. That puts me square in Limited territory. With the silver bumper as the special bonus prize.

CPAJeeper - I've seen pictures of the silver and white Limited Patriots -- the silver bumper seems to blend into the body color for the most part. Problem is, I have been driving a white car for the past 10 years and I'm ready for some color. Congrats on your purchase!

me too! sunroof is such a want/need for me, and i would prefer the YES seats... maybe we will be able to swap our leathers with someone who wants it.

what color are you going for? im 90% for urban black, but do like the green. need to see some in person to see which one feels better.

im so freakin torn!

what options do we lose out on matching Sport vs Limited? i could see myself bumper painting the fascias and undercarriage.

That makes me the odd-man-out, because I love the trim on my green Limited.

Don't think that that hasn't crossed my mind! But I fear that I'm all talk/thought on this one. If I'm stuck getting the leather, then it's a good bet that I'll have the leather as long as I have the car. The most I've ever done to a car is add mud flaps and have a friend change out the stereo.

I think the black looks really sharp on the Patriot. However, I'll just admire the black color from afar since I know that I am too anal to own a car that color -- it just magnifies dirt and scratches...my problem is, even though the dirt would drive me crazy, I'm too lazy to wash the thing once a week and baby it. I do like the steel blue color a lot. Also, during my daily drive-by at the dealership today, I spent some time looking at a green GC...very nice. And I think it's the same green that is available on the Patriot. If I get a Patriot, it will probably be one of these colors (even though I know that the darker colors show dirt more -- and bake in the summertime -- I think these will be slightly better than the black).

That's a good question. As far as I understand, the seat material and sunroof seem to be the big trade-offs. I also have the impression that some other options are upgraded when moving from the Sport to the Limited, but none come to mind right now (although I may be thinking of the Ford Edge trade-offs).

tcperconti - No offense intended! I agree that the silver bumper looks nice in combination with the darker body colors. I saw a few pictures of a green Limited...which made me take a closer look at the GC today. That "Jeep" green metallic (the shiny flecks caught the light and really made the Jeep stand out). Very nice. Trying to picture that green on a Patriot, I imagine the color carries the silver bumper pretty well. The steel blue, on the other hand, seems to have a more matte finish...which may be further neutralized with the silver bumper. My imagination sucks, so it would really help me out if the dealer could just get a Sport and Limited Patriot in every color available. :o

ya! in my area, ive only seen ONE Pat (silver Limited) - a color i would never buy. i dont know why, but i feel silver is a color that belongs to a car.

Please Please swap your leather seats with me, just make sure you get the pebble beige interior! Also, I really wanted the sunroof to and when I relayed that to my dealer he mentioned that they install the MOPAR sunroof for 900$ (yes 100$ over factory install) but they give it a lifetime warranty and there hasn't ever been a single complaint of a leak (apparently they have had some leaks with the factory install ones) So I got him to take 100$ off of it, and install it for the 800$ I would pay the factory and BAM we had a deal!

So close, yet so far. I've pretty much decided on the gray interior (that is, if I can ever see one in person). Oh well, it's all wishes and fairy tales for now anyway.

Just to bring this thread back on topic sort of (e.g., "Exterior"), I have been assuming that the sunroof is the sunroof/moonroof setup, with a glass panel serving as the sunroof. I haven't been able to find a picture of one yet. However, I also assumed that the driver's seat in the Limited Patriot would be a power seat, and I seem to be wrong about that one...

P.S. Nice job negotiating the sunroof. That's definitely something to keep in mind.

DeltaBoy - that is great news on the factory sunroof. I think I remember you asking those questions about an aftermarket roof a little while ago.

The Factory roof is a sunroof / moon roof in that it has three postions

1) Closed (solid sliding sunscreen can be slide open or closed depending on tastes)
2) Vent
3) Retracted or Open

The nice thing about the new sunroofs are the auto open / auto close feature. I wish they would have put that on my liberty because it sure if boreing holding the button down while you wait for the glass to shut.

tristavia, ive got to see the roof when you get it! ya, thats definitely something to consider. but, what options will i lose with the Sport? i tried a build and price, and i cant add the factory uConnect...

With the different options packages (the packages are on edmunds but they dont really tell you about them on the jeep.com site) I got everything I wanted, power-everything, boston acoustics, heated seats, auto-dim mirror, leather wrapped steering wheel with buttons, ect ect. The only things I didn't get are the sunroof and the navigation, like I said before the dealer is putting the sunroof in, and I am putting the nav system in, they sell the new console panel with the bigger slot for 50$ and I can get the system for 1300$ on ebay because they have been using that unit for a while. As far as uConnect I am pretty sure you cannot get it on the sport except as a funky looking add-on with no place to put the controls just like everyone else said so I guess that is your sacrifice for saving some dough on the lower level model. Good thing I dont like talking on my cell phone while driving no matter what the set-up!

That's great! I'm always afraid that someone will think I'm flipping them off as I open/close my sunroof...

You may also have to add body-colored moldings to that list. Check out these pictures:

The sport actually does not come with any body side molding. I've never seen the black molding like that picture shows. That's interesting...

I have read that you can add body side molding on the sport model as an added feature perhaps the black molding is what comes if you order it on the sport....

Sport does not include a bodyside molding. Be sure to add it to your order, it was not listed on Edmunds.com or jeep.com, so I was not aware when I placed my order. Mine does not have it, and I am paranoid to park anywhere!

Also, once you load up a Sport w/ options, the price is nearly equal to a Limited with equal equipment, cuz most of the equipment is included on the Limited. So, your choice then becomes whether you want leather or not, the sunroof, and the chromish front bumper.

and if you like the sunroof and the chromish front bumper, you can always trade your leather seats for my YES essentials (stain/static/odor proof!)

can anyone confirm this? jeez, im getting royally screwed with building my Patriot. the uConnect is a feature i really want... almost equal to the sunroof. back to the Limited for me i guess. im sure i can trade my leather if i decide to and a small paint mod shouldnt cost me more than $200.

now i have to decide on black vs green.

In addition to being forced to take that silver/argent/chrome bumper, I think you also lose the folding front passenger seat-back. Although... the Jeep website shows that you can order something called the "Flexible Seating Group" for the Sport. But I couldn't find anyplace on the Jeep website that defined what the "Flexible Seating Group" is. My guess is that it probably includes the folding front seat (nice to have if you ever plan on hauling a ladder, sleeping in your Patriot, etc.).

Sport E, as well as Limited F package includes: rear 60/40 folding and reclining seatback, height adjustable driver's seat, and front passenger fold flat seat back.

Uconnect mirror is not available on the sport from factory, available only on Limited.

Body color bodyside molding is optional on the Sport, included on the Limited. I have never seen a black one, must be an added on after production.

Check out these pics: they clearly show a Sport (non chromish bumper) with the Trail Rated Package (front and rear towhooks, and badge on side). Look closely, you can see the skid plates on the first pic. Also, notice the muffler and tailpipe are painted black

I agree with you Tristavie, that silver bumper looks kind of cheesy.I was horrified for a while.I wasn't sure which bumper comes with the North/Sport package but I'm ereleaved to know it's not the silver one.

I really wanted the sun roof too, but didn't want to upgrade to the Limited. Plus (and maybe I'm in the minority) but I hate leather interior. The salesguy told me they could install a sunroof for me and I might yet pursue that depending on teh cost, but only if they offer it under their very limited warranty.

And I kinda like the brushed metal look of the bumpers, though I obviously didn't get it with my Sport.

I was by a dealer in NJ today and noticed the tow hooks on the front of a nice black Patriot Sport. I checked it out and it did have the CVTII L and a trail rated badge.

I have the opposite problem--afraid I will not get the sunroof open in time to throw the bird to a deserving recipient!

BTW, I like the silver fascia.:smiley_thumbs_up:

Paint it flat black, or have a shop paint it to match. The only thing those silver pieces say to me is someone wanted leather and a few options I didn't need.

I want the add on too, only to paint it the same color as my pat! Remove a section of the old bumper where patriot is, add in some accent lights and then cover with the painted add on piece except the word Patriot is cut out!! Neat effect I think. Kinda like the lighted step guards I once saw but can't find now.

Sure, you can order it from the parts department at your dealer. Though from looking at the parts manual, I'm not seeing a separate number for the bright insert by itself... But then, I'm far from an expert with that manual..
