If anybody has ordered the tow hitch and has the trailer tow prep group as an option, can you confirm if the following is correct?

I have the trailer two prep group which includes only the engine oil cooler and the trailer tow wiring harness...so from MOPAR website....one can order the following...

1. Hitch receiver (for 2000lb tow rating 1 1/4 opening
(part # 82208815AB)... =$183 US

2. Complete Wiring harness 4way connector, (I believe the wiring that comes with the trailer tow prep group only goes to the back of the vehicle and one needs this to the complete the wiring)...
part # 82209280 = $113 US

3. Wiring harness bracket kit...trailer tow L bracket kit to mount 4-way flat trailer tow connector to fascia...
Part # 82204602
(not sure if this is required or optional) = $6.87 US

4. hitch lock--1/2 diameter pin for 1 1/4 hitch receiver includes two tubular -style keys part # 82209884 =$22 US

5. hitch ball--depending on size of ball you want
1 7/8 --part # = 82210395 = $20 US (2" also available)

6. JEEP (or MOPAR also available) receiver plug that fits 1 1/4 receiver, includes retention strap and four-way wiring plug holder (part # 82208457) = $9.00 US

Total cash = $353.87 US plus labour to install this....

Frosty:

This is info from my local dealership. I posted this on another thread earlier.

I have ordered a Limited and asked the dealership to research the addition of a hitch assembly when the Pat comes in. The tow group adds a oil cooler(I suggest you don't try to add this yourself) and the hardware to connect a wiring harness too.

This is the cost from my local dealership to cut out the bumper trim and add the receiver and wire.

"Here is the order on your all new 07 Jeep Patriot Limited. The hitch, wiring and labor comes to $523.25. Let me know if you need anything or have any question."

Thanks, that gives me some idea of the approximate cost....my local dealer in Ontario doesn't have any info on part numbers for any Pat accessories yet....wants me to furnish him with them so he can get a price on the tow hitch receiver and wiring...

Keep me posted because I believe that tow prep group only includes the engine oil cooler and wiring harness (to the end of the vehicle)....based on info in ordering sheets and directly from the Jeep Canada website)... unless he is throwing the rest in for you as part of your deal....which would be sweet because it looks like the trailer tow assembly is big bucks...

This is good to know. I got the tow prep group on my Patriot but I will need the towbar and all the other goodies installed.

HEY, I am getting the trailer tow prep group. I am going to be getting one from AutoZone. They can get a hitch for like around $120 that’s good if you know how to put it on. All it does is bolt on. The hitch is also made by Reese!!

I was at the dealer last Friday. The service guy had already had requests for the hitch and wiring harness. The hitch is $208. and the wiring harness is $129. CDN. Total is $440.50 installed. I already have the oil cooler which came with my Pat. According to the Canadian Chrysler Customer people, an after market hitch will void the warrenty. I asked the service desk and they said the same thing.

I like the MOPAR hitch because it tucks up under the bumper. One small cutout, pattern is provided with the hitch, four bolts in existing holes. $148.00 US from my dealer. Part of my deal was accessories at cost. It is a class 2 and there is no reason to go with a bigger hitch. The little Pat can only haul so much weight. I think that someone posted a picture tutorial on how to DYI. I can not understand using a aftermarket hitch would void the warrenty. It is a non-mechanical device that has no effect on any other systems of the Jeep (with the towing package installed, cooler, etc). I would make them show you in writing.

I bought a Drawtite and wiring adapter from ehitch for $160 total/delivered. The 2" receiver hitch took 20 minutes. The wiring adapter, about 3 hours. An after market hitch voiding warranty? I think the Moss-Magnuson Act addresses that in the US.

Frosty, what exactly do you mean by the wiring harness (to the end of the vehicle)? I got the wiring harness sitting in my garage because I dont have the money saved up yet for the install, but I thought that harness is a complete kit; meaning that when i do buy the mopar hitch and have it installed at the dealer, they use the wiring harness that it came with and thats it. You make it seem like if I will need to buy another wiring harness to add to the one that it already came with. I am confused....:confused:

I purchased and installed a Reese hitch and universal wiring harness on my 07 with ease. The Mopar wiring adapter is nice that it is plug and play, but the Reese universal was very easy to put in and cost 1/4 of the price. Also the Reese class II hitch comes with a receiver. I also liked the fact that you do not need to cut the rear bumper for the receiver. That amount of less ground clearance isn't that important IMHO.

All told is was about $280 CND. The install is very easy, but if you are in the GTA I can help out if you need it including getting the parts.
