Figured since we can't see the real Patriot yet, we might as well show off what Jeeps we have owned.

I've owned two (with more to come):

1995 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 4.0L
No mods to it really. I planned on lifting it and making it our weekend toy, but after the trans blew, I needed a new daily driver and was offered a pretty penny for it "as is". So I sold it. I kick myself constantly because it was in really really good condition.

I don't have many pics of it, but here it is when my brother and I were goofing around at his delearship with it:

2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7L 4X4
Believe it or not, I modded the heck out of this one.
I put a Daystar 2.5" lift, rockrails, roof rack, heavy duty front and rear hitches. I even wired an EVIC from the Limited model into it and added the stock wireless tire pressure units to the wheels (displayed on the EVIC).

Mine's the green muddy one:

My wife now wants a Commander. I'm kinda partial to the new 4 door Wrangler Unlimited. A Patriot may become our weekday commuter/mud toy.

How much did the 2.5" lift cost you?....if you don't mind my asking. I would plan to do the same for the Patriot if I decide to buy it and I have no idea what they run. Are lift kits specific to vehicle models?

Lift kits are specific to vehicles. I believe when I bought the kit for the KJ, it was around $250.00. The money comes when you buy new tires to fill those big wheel wells.

DMAG,

Did altering your Liberty void the warranty?

No. Many dealerships were installing the lifts as a dealer-installed option pre-sale. Though I'm sure if you had problems in the front suspension, they might still give you a hard time.

1961 Willys Wagon, purchased by my Dad in 1964. Still own it.

2002 Wrangler Sport, current ride.

A CJ-5 that I sold in 1996, and a YJ that I had overseas in 2001

When you alter a car, the warranty is only voided if the problem was caused by the modified parts. So if you put a lift on the Jeep, and the electrical wiring shorts out, it's still under warranty because the lift had nothing to do with the wiring. But if, say, the brake line snaps because of the lift you put on, it's not covered.

I'm not sure if these apply nationally, but thats the way things work in New York State.

I had a 1992 Jeep Cherokee that I got from my parents when I was in college (my sister drove it when she went to college,, and I inherited that when she got a Jetta at her first real job). My parents just traded it in this past summer with about 170k on it for a 2005 Grand Cherokee. I inherited my parent's 1993 Grand Cherokee, which I drive now and has a mere 174k on it and still runs like a champ.

So I've had two Jeeps that last well into 170k+ and my uncle had over 250k on a Cherokee before he totalled it a couple years ago. Not to mention the numerous reports of people getting well over 200k on their Jeeps. I still see a ton of older Cherokees and Grand Cherokees on the road. So where does Consumer Reports get off at saying Jeeps are "unreliable"?

These are the only two photos of the last jeeps I'd owned... at least right now.

Before that Grand Cherokee... I had a CJ-5, CJ-7, and even a burnt orange Grand Wagoneer with the genuine simulated wood decals down the side!

I've also owned a few other various 4x4's through the years.

So you are really screwed if you turbo charge a car and the engine or transmission fails....because they'll just blame it on the turbo charger (since it was a post factory modification) regardless of the problem....right?

You are only screwed if you can't prove that the turbo charger didn't cause the engine or transmission failure. I'm honestly not very familiar with the inner workings of an engine or transmission, so I'm not sure how you would go about diagnosing what the actual cause of an engine/transmission problem is.

I do agree with you that the dealership would probably just see the turbo charger and blame it on that. So in that instance, it might be worthwhile to take it somewhere else to get it diagnosed. If they say that the turbo charger had nothing to do with it and it's actually a stock part that caused the problem, you may have a legal case to get it fixed under the warranty.

That being said, some dealerships are cool about mods to a car and will still cover some problems under warranty (within reason), whereas others won't even think about covering it under warranty if it's modded.

I started a new thread here about aftermarket parts and warranties since it's a bit off topic from this thread:

Looks like the former ZJ owners are in the lead, so to speak....

Is that a 2WD or 4WD 1964 Willy's wagon?
